I have severe neuro lymes and wondering if people have had more luck with minocycline or docyclcline? also, is 200 mg of doxy basically ineffective?thank you!!

I noticed no effect from mino.
I have had a decrease in pain being on doxy 200 mg twice daily.
I have been on doxy 3 times so far. The first time (months 1-3 of treatment) I herxed but had no improvement because it was too early in treatment.
The 2nd and 3rd time on doxy has helped me alot.
For a short time in Sept I took only 100 mg twice daily while the sun was still hot.
I still noticed improvement, but it took 11 days to see any difference compared to 3 days on 200 mg twice daily.

I got no results from Minocycline alone but Doxy alone definitely helped.
That said, when I added Mino to Ceftin, it made a difference.
Dr. B discredits Minocycline as a Lyme drug but seems popular with some LLMDs...?

On wikipedia the side effects sound aweful but at the same time so many people have used this drug, even for acne, it's hard to believe it would be that bad..

I have found mino to be much more effective for my neurolyme. I took doxy first for about 5 months and that seemed very good, once I was over the initial herx. But then I started to get headaches again and switched to mino.
It took some time to be effective, but I think mino crosses the blood brain barrier better than doxy does. I feel that my headaches are much better now than when I was taking the doxy.
I think that 300 to 400 mg a day is considered the minimum dosage for doxy. It is lower for mino because of the possible side effects.

It could be either. NAC, B-6, vinpocetine and liver support may help offset vertigo that often goes with it. More detail in the tinnitus thread and in Bauman's book. -

I just started on mino but will be upping the dosage to twice daily.
How do you know if you are dizzy/unbalanced from the mino or dizzy from your lyme. I was dizzy before I started treatment but seems like the mino is bringing it out more or maybe it is just an added side effect? So I'm trying to know how I will gauge when I know I am getting better for the neuro symptoms or not.
Also how long does mino's side effects stay in your system? I.e if you only take one pill in the morning, shouldn't it wear off by the evening?

Been on Mino two times a day for 2.5 months now
herxed for first 3 weeks
had 3 weeks symptom free added pulsed flagyl and 2-3 week herx begain again.
I am having noa adverse side affect from mino... even went on a cruise when 2 weeks into taking Mino.
from what I understand mino has a much greater chance of adverse affects on women then in men.
Minocycline , Hydroxychlorquine , Pulsed Flagyl seem to be killing the lyme for me so far...

I was on both when I didn't know I had lyme disease, I got kind of crazy on Mino and didn't know why. I was on Doxy for a number of years before that for acne..low dose, I think I was taking it at the time of infection, I'm not sure as I didn't get any of the tell tale rash and flu symptoms.
My 2 cents...Doxy....

Don't forget about tetracycline. It has its place and can be more effective than doxy in certain cases.
I've just completed my first pulse of mino so too early to compare it to doxy or tetra, but I did not get the dizziness side effect fortunately.
From what I've read, the dizziness side effect is most often seen in female patients.
My LLMD recommends meclizine when mino related dizziness/nausea becomes an issue. They can be taken concurrently from what I understand.
