what are your experiences with those?

I've tried 3 cycles of diflucan without any change, and I'd like to try another. Should I pulse nizoral + sporanox?

Can these antifungals interfere with tetracyclines, rifampin or levaquin?

I believe they can interfere with Rifampin.

What was your dosage of Diflucan??

Taking a high quality probiotic??

You should go to the site drugs.com and use the interaction checker to see how the drugs you are considering interact.

I prefer Diflucan because it also has activity against lyme but it is hard on your liver. I am using nystatin and it is ok although I only took it every other day and ended up with a black tongue!

Rifampin and Sporanox sounds like a deadly combination to me but I'm not a doctor.

Nystatin is very safe and gentle. I take 2 pills 2x /day and have been on them since day 1. ONly problem is they stay in your GI tract so they won't solve yeast in the blood.

i use nystatin and diflucan a lot depending what abx i am on

i was prescribed nizoral once for something wlse and i had the worst reaction...it felt like i was full of live bugs (i know, i know i am...)but this was like big bugs or worms ALL SQUIGGLY IN ME...and i know i could never take that again unless i was doped up so much i was asleep...it was the most horrible experience

i keep thinking tho...it might mean that is the one drug i really should take... to see improvement...i wonder what it was getting???

So nystatin is gentle and for the GI track only, while sporanox is a bomb for the whole body? I'm gonna pick sporanox [Smile]

I'll check the drug interraction websites tomorrow and post it. In general yo guys think nystatin and diflucan are ok with abx? can you mix both diflucan and nystatin?

what about nizoral?

Haley, why do you say you think sporanox wouldnt mix well with rifampin?

ipkayak - that sound awesome, i would run for more! no pain no gain.

terminator-you are wierd(i say that lovingly). you don't know me very well. i'm pretty tuff...but i couldn't handle what happened to me with the nizoral.

for over a year i took :

amox-twenty 875mg pills a day

plus

1000mg zith a day

i was working as a teacher...i had to have my bathroom stuff under control

i figured it out using many-like 10-15 nystatins a day, plus diflucan plus theralac plus sbc and no yeast diet

a lyme herx can kill you (now-it doesn't happen very often an all you newbies don't get upset...herxing is necessary...but what i went thru was too much. )

the creepy crawly sensation made me really crazy...like jump off a bridge crazy to get away from it. sometimes it is too much.

and if you did something like that...you would pay in the next few days with detox issues

Run all your meds through the drug interaction checker on drugs.com

You have several potential drug interactions. I would think that your doctor would have told you this?

Rifampin may lower the blood levels of Nizoral, Diflucan, and Sporanox

Nizoral, Diflucan, and Sporanox can increase the blood levels of Rifampin

Diflucan and Levaquin may cause a serious heart arrhythmia when taken together.

Diflucan and Sporanox were derived from Nizoral (Ketoconazole), they have less side effects and are prescribed more often. Nizoral is mainly used in topical form now.

So it looks like your best logical choice would be Sporanox to take with your Levaquin, doxy, mino combo. Hold the Rifampin while you treat the fungal infection with Sporanox. Once you get the infection under control transition to Nystatin for GI yeast prevention and restart the Rifampin.

Please be careful and find a doctor to monitor your condition more closely. You shouldn't have to make these kinds of decisions on your own.

Nystatin and Diflucan can be taken with most antibiotics. But look out for an interaction between sporanox and Rifampin. There may be an interaction between Diflucan and Rifampin as well.

Check it all out.
