The most intriguing supplement is niacinamide which is also called nicotinamide or B3. It is used to treat Alzheimer's, dementia, nerve damage, depression, anxiety, arthritis, schizophrenia and beta cell destruction (in newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes).

The following is a quote from The Townsend Letter, Dec. 2010.

"Recently, therapeutic doses of niacinamide actually reversed Alzheimer's disease in a 2008 animal study, performed by University of California-Irvine researchers.

Dr. Kim Green and colleagues gave transgenic mice with Alzheimer's disease and healthy control mice a human dose equivalent of 2000 to 3000 mg of niacinamide per day for four months.

The vitamin produced cognitive and physiological effects. Memory function and behavior improved in the diseased mice and in the healthy ones, but the effect on the diseased mice amazed the research team.

"'Cognitively, they were cured,' said Green. 'They performed as if they'd never developed the disease.'"

End of quote. The theraputic dose is 25mg per kilo of body weight or about 1500-3000mg divided into three doses.

Here is a way you can determine nerve cell damage which niacinamide helps reverse.

Stand in your bare feet with your eyes closed. Lift one foot up to your other knee and hold. Do not use your arms for balance or open your eyes. If your nerves are impaired you will not be able to do this. They are not sending messages to your brain telling it where your body parts are so you can balance.

You can guage improvement doing this test. Before I started this vitamin I fell over immediately. After a week I can hold it about 2 seconds before I fall. At my age I should be able to hold it for at least ten seconds.

I am not as depressed or obsessive mentally.

Another supplement to consider trying if you have neuropathy is Alpha Lipoic Acid. It is helpful for numbness, tingling, spasms etc. It is a powerful antioxidant that supports liver and kidney function. Also Acetyl L Carnitine will help memory.

Hope someone else tries this so we can see if it helps.

PS
Don't confuse niacinamide with niacin, which causes flushing.
Niacninamide does not cause any flushing. Take it with food to avoid upset stomach.

Some people have reported niacin helps with lyme disease.

It is most effective. Done it for years. Suggest people do some research. I posted about it years ago. Take care.
