Being that they're in the same class, I want to know if I need to stop Azithromycin for a certain amount of days before I can start Clarithromycin?

You should be fine to switch right over. Whenever you aren't sure about something like this you can easily double check with your pharmacist or prescribing doc.

Good point. I called a pharmacist and they said the same thing.

Thanks

Excellent, BM! I have a headache today from my first dose. What a lovely feeling. [Wink]

I switched right over with no problem.

I also switched over without a break and had no problems. What did your Dr tell you? I agree with others to check with Dr and pharmacist to double check.

Just a side note.. since having lyme I have been told many times by my pharmacist that medication shouldn't be used together even though my llmd disagreed. Our treatment is not typical so there may be inconsistencies.

Best of luck.

I was off azithromycin X 3 days then started clarithromycin. I made the switch last April when I reached a plateau on the azithromycin. I was also taking bactrim ds twice daily and doxy twice daily and pulsing artemisinin on fri, sat, sun. I remember yawning constantly on the the "art" days.

Current: herbs: licorice, ashwagandha, eleuthero, rhodiola rosea, supps: B12,carnitine, vit C, alpha lipoic acid, DHEA, L-lysine (for HSV), magnesium, whey protein isolate, pump iron X 1 hr 3x/wk. Less than 10% carbs, high protein diet,
epsom salt bath 3x/wk, lymphocyte count now in mid-normal range, immune system kicking in even when off antibiotic now, pulsing doxy with flagyl for 3 weeks at a time when symptoms begin to recur which is infrequent. Diphenhydramine at bedtime. Probiotic: theralac, florastor.
