Well I have an appointment to see a new LLMD on the 25th, and a few weeks after that I will be traveling to PA on vacation and made an appointment to see Dr. S the LL-neuro-oph while I'm there.
In the meantime, I'm continuing to try to figure out what is going on with my eyes.
Bear with me while I try to explain this.
Is it possible for floaters to show up as fixed dark splotches in the field of vision? I just went for a walk outside in the very bright sunlight and I've noticed that in the area where the new splotch is it looks instead like a jellyish floatery "defect" when I'm in bright sunlight. When I'm outside I don't really see it as a big splotch... it looks more like a floater that's stuck in one place, right at the bottom of my vision.
Is it possible that it's not true vision loss since these things change in appearance depending on lighting conditions? I see the spots in both eyes when I blink and they are most noticeable in mid-level indoor lighting, against a light background. They are like round shadows. They more or less disappear when I keep my eyes open and still. They are not symmetrical and I've had the one in the left eye for much longer than the one in the right.
I guess I'm trying to hang on to the notion that this could be something physical happening in the vitreous rather than nerve/inflammation related vision loss.
My MRI last spring did show an empty sella but the final word on the report was "No significant abnormality is noted"... so I would think that if the empty sella/pituitary thing were causing the vision problems they would have seen more evidence of that on the MRI. Also the eye doc said everything looked normal inside my eye when I had a dilated exam.
I have been having these issues since summer 2009 and they have gotten gradually but consistently worse.
The eye doctor did say that I have a floater in the right eye, which is the eye in which the new spot recently appeared. He told me this BEFORE I noticed a problem in the right eye. The spot in the left eye is way over in the peripheral vision and he said it's possible it's something that's positioned where he can't see it.
I just want so badly for this to be something happening IN my eyeball rather than my nerves/brain!
It really made me wonder when I went outside into the bright light and found that it looked more floatery and not like a big round spot at all. Could it be a clump of floaters casting a shadow?
I know no one here can give me medical advice, but am just "floating" these ideas, forgive the pun.
Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on any of this, and how it could relate to Lyme.

I think floaters tend to be common with lyme and co's...an inflammation thing most likely...
Strangely, mine always seem worse when I'm feeling worse. I don't notice them as much when I'm feeling well.
If what you're describing is in fact a floater and not a blind spot, then there may not be too much to worry about apart from the obvious annoyance that it causes.

i've had floaters a long time. usually circles or kete shaped and white or sparkly
last yr i started getting black ones. they came in so fast i would duck my head-oftern thinking a fly was coming at me. it happened a lot. i told my llmd and he said floaters are common. i told themthey were black. n
the floaters kept getting worse and i finally called an opthamalogitst
they made me come inthat day...afraid i would have detached retina
they did confirme it was vitreous breaking off
i think it was wrong the llmd did not send me to opthal way back wen i told him
