I believe a positive ANA can be fairly common in Lyme patients, but what about the Anti-DNA?

Does Lyme trigger the Anti-DNA as well?

Can Lyme induce Lupus?

No one has had this test??

I have had this test, but the ANA was high and the DS-DNA antibodies were negative.

I did have one positive Anti-Smith antibody show up once...

I do think Lyme can cause these antibodies, but don't know if that is the cause for everyone with elevated ANA's.

My LLMD told me that Lyme can cause all sorts of autoimmune antibodies to spike up..I have the centromere AB which are indicative of scleroderma.. he says he doubts anything will come of this and its likely a result of Lyme...

I was diagnosed with lupus with only ANA at 1:640 and symptoms. The rest of my lupus panel was negative. That was 10 years ago at U of M. They were wrong. My son is ANA positive and Anti-Sm positive but nothing else on his lupus panel of labs.
I am interested to see if those labs return to normal further into treatment.
Lyme can mimic lupus. I should have been diagnosed atypical lupus if anything and should have been tested for Lyme.

Today I was at the lovely yearly with gyn. When I went to give urine speciman and looked at myself in the mirror there was my bright red butterfly looking rash on my face.

I've had this numerous times in the last 7 yrs. Everytime I've seen my PCP that is my main doc and more than 70% lyme literate, I've not had the rash.

It comes and goes. I did notice this morning after I'd been up couple hours that my neck seemed to be rashed/whelp like? It was odd, but heck I'm used to weird stuff.

My PCP has probably tested me 6-8 times for Lupus ANA. I'm negative

Just looked up the test from '07 and it's LabCorp ANA w/reflex if positive
Antinuclear Antibodies Direct.

Would that be the same test?

Pam

Thank you for your replies.

My ANA came back positive and so did my Anti-DNA (DS).

Pam - I'm not really sure if it's the same test that you had.

I'm just not sure what to think about my results and I'm waiting to hear more from the Dr.

I have been symptom free for a few months now except for a red butterfly rash that suddenly appeared on my chest a couple months ago.

It doesn't hurt or itch - it's just there. Heat from the shower and sunlight make it more pronounced.

I have read that a positive ANA test can mean a lot of things, but I'm having trouble finding any info on the Anti-DNA (DS).

The Anti-DS-DNA is more specific to Lupus than just a generally elevated ANA... Some drug reactions apparently can also cause a positive DS-DNA antibody test. --from http://www.hopkins-arthritis.org/ask-the-expert/systemic-lupus-erythemato-022/anti-ds-dna-test-734.html

Thank you for the link!

I wish I could find what drugs that Dr is referring to.

How do people that have Lyme & Lupus deal with both??

I had anti DNA, but now it is gone and I have only the 3,200 ANA.
Nobody can give me an explanation.

I think now they treat with low dose doxy.
There is a group of modern lupus docs and they treat with abx.
Pm me if you need more then I try to find my old files.

Up for any more info on Anti-DS-DNA testing in how it relates to Lyme or Lupus.
