i finally convinced my doc to try and attack this lyme but he said only for a month. well, heck, i suppose it's better than nothing right.
going without any treatment ain't working gang...
so he gave me 250 mg of cipro cause i react so badly to everything, he said a small dose is better than trying to kill lyme and me!! he's so funny...yeah right.
he said to load up on probiotics and mag and calcium, which i already do.
but i mean, really, is it even worth it to take something for a month? won't it just stir things up and make it worse if he doesn't give me anything else?
one month of anything is not going to help in my opinion.
what would you do? i felt like saying "are you crazy? forget it." but at least he's trying...but not much tho...
so to do or just say forget it???

I don't know, but I guess if I had no other options I'd give it a try. Maybe if it helps you he will give you more? I haven't had any luck at all with local docs helping me with lyme at all. They all seem scared, that is if they believe me at all.
My pcp believes I have lyme and has seen me suffer with this for at least 6 years now. He also saw how much better I got after taking abx for 4 years straight. He has written me rx's to fill in between when I'd see my llmd. I don't think he felt comfortable with prescribing them himself but would rx what llmd had already written for me. In his words, he said that if I'd seen specialists (neuro, rheum., and ID) that he was not allowed to rx abx when I was under their care. Especially the ID doc. He wanted to at that time because I was running fever and he could tell very sick but couldn't. I don't know if you see any "specialists" but maybe that is involved too?

Cipro doesn't treat Lyme according to my LLMD. He said it hits bartonella, but not Lyme. It also hits gut infections.

However, sometimes, lower doses do much more harm than good. At the recent ILADS conference one LLMD was very strong about that with one kind of drug and one particular infection. But I don't recall the details.
You'd need to really study this as to if a lower than therapeutic dose would cause more harm - or maybe give you just the lift you need so that other support supplements would work better for you (since you seem to be without a LLMD).
Still, I don't think it's a good idea to do ANY single Rx with the kind of complex stealth mix we have. This is all so intricate that, usually, combinations are required - or at least back up support.
And, you'd have to have some kind of plan for week 5 and beyond.
Now, some of that can be done with very specific supplements, perhaps, but it would be good for a LL to offer their thoughts.
Tendon issues can occur with cipro so you'd have to be very proactive about prevention. -

I would not take cipro for vary long. When I did it burst a tendon in my leg and it has also been known to burst other tendons. I was in a cast for eight weeks because of it and it took months to get over it.

that sounds terrible! Do you, or anyone know if bactrim has that risk? I am curious as I am to start it after holidays. I sure hope that won't be a problem. I tore a ligament in my ankle several years ago and it took a very long time to heal. It ripped it right off the bone.

I think Bactrim is OK.. it's the fluoroquinolones that are dangerous.
