I prefer not to use Ester C - or "ascorbate."

Most of our foods are laced with good old fashioned ascorbic acid, and our bodies make very specific enzymes in order to absorb the vitamin C. If you're taking one kind, and the foods you eat contain another, you are confusing your digestive system.

Please read Linus Pauling's Book: "How to Live Longer and Feel Better" for more about this.

He actually says its OK to mega dose with one or the other (ascorbate or ascorbic acid) but warns against "switching horses," once you have built up specific enzymes to absorb a large daily dose.

I have been using Solgar's HYC (with bioflavonoids) for decades - it is very gentle on the stomach, and you can mega-dose in times of illness with no problem.

Whatever you decide, don't forget the bioflavonoids; such as rutin, rose hips, or hesperidin.

When Mother Nature makes Vitamin C foods, she always includes these bioflav "grace notes" along with the C. (Such as in the white web around orange sections, or the soft rib inside a green pepper. We are supposed to eat these!)

So scientists think that the bioflavonoids are important for C's efficient use in the body.

I get vitamin c powder at Trader Joes. I mix
3 quarter tsp= 3grams of vitamin c powder with 1 quarter teaspoon of baking soda and 3 ounces of water. Makes a nice detox fizzy, helps with allergies too. Does have 330 mg of sodium though so is not for everyone.
