Wondering who out there beat Babs. I've been treating with Mepron for over a year. I was on Mepron + Bactrim DS for about 8 months. I have just added Malarone to my protocol and it is kicking the bajeezus out of me. I had hoped a year of Mepron, along with Biaxin and 8 months of Bactrim would have knocked it down considerably. The Malarone has me feeling fully ill. I'm basically a wobbly mess, walking into walls. Hot/cold chills. Brain zaps, etc.

Man, what is the way through this? It seems impossible. How damn long do I have to do this?

Hi <<<<< lymeboy >>>>>,

I haven't figured out how to beat any of this mess yet either [mostly self treating]... Sorry you're feeling so rough right now.

I'm moping along, here w/ a darn intestinal bug... but I can sure commiserate.

Lyme,Babs, Bart, and any other Co' Arrgh... [Mad]

I'm on malarone too. It sounds like it's hitting the babs for you.

I think TF beat babs. I can't remember what she did. She had a great doc.

Hopefully some babs killers will pipe in here.

I would say I have beat it... No night sweats, or daily sweats, no foot pain and basically those things were over the top for me...

TF did ...

My two years with a great doc and then photon treatment has been my answer. No one that knows me can believe how well I am doing...

I remember well Malerone and Mepron.... Mepron nearly broke me out of pocket...

Malarone made me really sick about a week after I started taking it.

Doctor cut Cefdinir dose in half (was already taking it when I started Malarone) and effects lessened rather quickly. She didn't think it was any type of herx.

Cefdinir hits Babs?

Oh that's depressing not to feel better after a year. I'd try something new. Are you on artemisinin too?

Posted by Lymetoo (Member # 743) on :

I took lots of clindamycin/quinine, rotating with meds for lyme for at least 2 yrs. Rotating made the going a bit slower. I also took malarone, did nothing that I could tell.

Took Bactrim... can't remember much about that one. Took plenty of it.

Then read HERE that artemisinin worked for babs. Asked my LLMD for Zith and after about 2 months, the babs was gone. Still can't believe it myself.

never took mepron

I would go after all parasites (on the necessary rotation of meds to do so). Babs is far from being the only protazoa/parasite afflicting us.

I stopped Art, it seemed to only make me feel worse. I'm starting crypto in a few days.

Crypto hit me hard the first few weeks. Start slow.

I beat it. After 20 months of various combos of Mepron, Malarone, Lariam, artemisia, and enula, it would still come backwithin three days if I stopped any of them. I think much of it is pretty drug resistant these days.

Once I got rid of the Lyme in Germany, I managed my babesia symptoms with something as simple as tonic water, and my body eventually resolved the babesia.

I first tried Mepron and after three weeks felt like a bobblehead and was having depression.

Changed doctors and was put on Bactrim, Azithromycin, and Melerone. Had slow and steading improvements. I then added Art. and am doing much better.

I always feel horrible when I take the Melerone and Art. together and then throughout the day More improvement.

I was using cryptolepsis, a-bab and red root tincture. Cleared away most of my symptoms.

I'm not sure it's gone yet, but it is working. Starting lyme treatment now using a different byron white formula.

I vaguely remember TF saying that she beat lyme first, then the co infections. So Six's post (quote below) makes me wonder if this is another way to kill it (go for lyme first--exercise, rest, diet, etc--Burrascano's 16th protocol).

Quote: "Once I got rid of the Lyme in Germany, I managed my babesia symptoms with something as simple as tonic water, and my body eventually resolved the babesia."

Maybe we have to knock lyme down first before we can make headway on the babs. I exercise every three or four days (have made some improvement), but Burrascano says to do it (light weight lifting) every other and work up to an hour (also completely rest the next day).

TF has told me to do this before, I guess I'm just lyme thick headed and forgetful. I think it's because I still need to do errands, so if I work out one day, and rest the next, when can I do anything?

That's why I do it every 3 or 4 days. I'm going to try the every other day thing and rest (can't hurt). It only gives me a limited amt of time the 3rd day to get stuff done though. But at this point, I'm willing to try almost anything.

My LLMD said for kids, he sees that if the kids beat the Lyme then the coinfections are no big deal.

Catgirl, exercise is possibly the most important part of treatment. Nothing makes me feel better than exercise.

I got rid of babesiosis. I treated it for 11 months. I think I had a mild case of it because I didn't have any symptoms of it until I started treating it. Then, things got bad with weekly flares. I tested positive for it through Igenex FISH, so there is absolutely no doubt I had it. They saw it in my blood.

Dr. H. of NY is considered the babs expert. He spoke on babs treatment at last year's lyme conference in Toronto.

If you want to read the notes I took from that conference regarding his babs treatment, they are here:

Maybe they will give you some ideas.

It appears that all of my other drugs affect the QT interval. I don't know what that is, or how we can solve this issue. I'll have to talk to doc.

Thanks so much TF...again!

TF- what did you take to treat the babs? I've got air hunger so much worse now that I'm on treatment. I can't understand why. It's 6 weeks. Still a herx!?

I have rid myself of the dreaded babs.I started with mepron /malerone/tindamax 3 months .
Took a 5 month break and then finished it off with a bab for7 months .
I was eventually up to 30 drops 2 X a day .
The treatment of babesia was by far the nastiest experience of my life.
I made myself get out and walk everyday that I was capable, legs of rubber .Could have easily used a cane if I had one.
The symptoms that were going on were sweats at night, hypercussis, smell sensitivity, light sensitivity, eyes felt gravely, depersonalizaton and general crazyness, sleep problems, crying alot, anxiety and depression, chills and temperature intolerance, confusion and so much more fun.
I can happily say most of it is all history !
A-bab was the trick that killed the beast for me.

Thx for sharing. I'm about to start abab. Scared of the herx as I already feel crappy but I'm gonna do it...

hey jess i know how you feel i already feel like total crap too and just started on zith and start on mepron today and i am definatly nervous, good luck

Posted by jackie51 (Member # 14233) on :

I beat Babs. Zith, art and mepron. At one time Biaxin and also Byron White A-Bab.

I also did some parasite treatment, sometimes I think that was the key player.

What's unfortunate, it that only recently I have developed night and day sweats. I never had this before and it's been 8 months since I stopped treating Babs. Hopefully it's just the age. ;-)

I have not had babesia symptoms or drugs for over 6 months so I assume it is gone or at least in remission. I treated 5 months with mepron and zithro - then switched to high dose malarone and zithro with rounds of coartem every 2 to 3 weeks for another 5 months.

At the end of that time my symptoms changed as protomyxzoa came to the surface. That is what I am addressing now but for the most part I feel well. I just need to keep doing the diet and pulsing stromectol to stay feeling this way. I hope in another year I can be drug free and stay in remission with diet.

THe last thing I did before quitting all babesia drugs was Chloroquine. I was supposed to add in Primaquine but the chloroquine was such a kicker I just quit all drugs at that time. Chloroquine stays in your blood for a month or more. You could try using those two drugs if the atovaquone isn't doing anything. Who knows, that have taken out the remainder of my infection.

Chloroquine on rare occasions can make you hyperthyroid so you need to use caution especially since you are stuck with the side effects for a month before it wears off. Even though I only took it four days I became very hyper on it - scary.

Neff explained in another post that babs and protomyxzoa symptoms are similar. So if you're fighting babs, it's possible that you're fighting protomyzxoa instead (or both).

Icon 1 posted 09-01-2012 11:20 AM Profile for nefferdun Send New Private Message Edit/Delete Post Reply With Quote Protomyxzoa also causes air hunger and extreme fatigue. It is linked to ALS and other auto immune diseases and it is often confused with babesia. There are a few differences that help you distinguish one infection from another. You can have both infections but the dominate one will manifest the most symptoms.

With babesia you want to oversleep. With protomyxzo you get insomnia. They both cause headaches behind the eyes. Babesia causes large muscle pain and cramping. Protomyxzoa causes pain in the bones and muscles - I have had back cramping with it. It can also cause pain in the teeth.

Both infections can cause episodes of dry unproductive cough or hoarse voice. They both cause hot flashes and sweats. Protomyxzoa causes nasal congestion. Promyxzao causes muscle twitching, like bart.

They are using antimalarial drugs to treat both infections but there are treatment differences. Protomxzoa multiplies 100 times faster with lipids (fat) and arginine so a low fat vegan diet is recommended. This is making a huge difference for those of us who are doing it.

Stromectol (ivermectin) is effective for some people with protomyxzoa. It worked wonders for me. Dr. F reported one patient diagnosed with ALS made huge strides with stromectol.

Given your symptoms and diagnosis of ALS, I would try the diet and add in antimalarial drugs pulsing ivermectin to see if you improve.

You should be tested for the methyl cycle mutations which will also trigger auto immune and neurological diseases. Read up on it at the heartfixer.com site. Most people who are chronically ill have the CBS mutation. Animal protein produces enormous amounts of ammonia. Sulfur in food is a big problem.

Once you have had this test done, you know what your body needs. It isn't a dangerous guessing game. If you have the CBS mutation and you juice kale, spinach, cabbage and other high sulfur vegetables, you are making things a thousand times worse. If you take supplements like milk thistle or MSM, you are adding to the problem.

If you have the MTRR mutation, then you are difficent in B12 which can cause a lot of your symptoms. Normal B12 makes things worse. You need the kind your body can use, which depending on your COMT status would be methyl B12 or Hydroxy B12. Hydroxy B12 has been shown very effective in chronic fatigue.

Do you have hyper coagulation, high iron or any other problems making the perfect storm for disease? We need to be more specific to our individual needs if we are going to beat these diseases.

Our daugher was on Mepron and Zithromax 14 months for Babesia (tindamax was in the mix but this was for Lyme).

While she still has issues we don't see any of the ones related to babs and believe she is cured of babesia.

great post catgirl Thanks!

I'm wondering if Biaxin is near as good as Zithro? I'd really rather not take Zith because my ears are already shot.
