I think I am developing a yeast infection from taking Flagyl which I am taking for C Diff. which was a result of taking Clindamycin for a dental infection. [shake]

Anyway, I had a touch time with Diflucan in the past and don't feel I can take it. Is it ok to just treat vaginal yeast infection w/OTC stuff or is this probably systemic too? What to do? Help!!!

Going away for the weekend and don't want to deal with this. Also scared of C Diff. flaring while away b/c today is my last day of Flagyl for it!

Yes, the OTC stuff works great (monistat 7). I think it's basically the same thing as what the doctor's office gives (that's what pharmacist told me). If you are itching other places, then it's likely systemic. Yeast makes me very sleepy (have to nap). So if you are napping a lot, that's another symptom.

Jack up your probiotics. It really helps. I started out on 32 or 36 billion culutres. I slowly upped it to 400 billion. That's what works. I take them every time I eat (4 times a day). Try Ultimate Flora (pink box). It has 50 billion per pill.

Also, if you can get your hands on some nystatin. Some people do well on the oral nystatin. I do better on the compounded. Also, the anti yeast herbs. Layer them in throughout your day (OLE, GSE, oil of oreagano, etc). They help.

And most important, especially while you have it, eat a strict anti yeast diet. Limit starch, no sugar, cheeses, etc. Remember, starch feeds yeast.

You also need more rest to fight yeast. And, take some s.boullardi to keep from getting C-diff.

Good luck and have a great trip!

P.S. I don't do diflucan either.

Look up the natural antibiotics and see if you can locate them. There are plenty of supplements sold be chiropractors that might help also. I agree a low/no carb diet is vital when you have yeast infection.
