My mother is taking prescription fish oil. I was thinking about asking my doctor about this. Does anyone know if its pure and free of mercury? If not what kind is preferable?

I want to use it to help thin my blood. Vitamin E and Fish Oil are blood thinners. I had a blood clot(DVT), and will be coming off of coumadin soon and want to thin my blood a little. I will also be taking aspirin.

Also in 3 days I will be in remission from Lyme Disease for 4 months. No antibiotics for 4 months! I will post more about that separatly to possibly give others hope.

We have a high deductible insurance plan. My husband picked up Lovaza and it was about $115

Make sure it is covered by your insurance!

OMG! I sure don't want to pay that much. I hope someone comes along with another suggestion, that cost a lot less.

WAY OVERPRICED. I take Carlson's fish oil from Vitacost or Swanson's.

{my Dr gave me a script for Lovaza many years ago and my copay was HIGH for it... no way}

Thanks Lymetoo!

So fish oil from the local drug store is a definet no no? What if it says it is mercury free, etc.?

Which brand? I basically buy nothing like that from the drugstore.

Good to see you again!! [Smile]

Well, actually I cleaned out all my outdated supplements a few weeks ago and now I can't remember what brand of fish oil I had. I am going to go to the health food store and ask them how do they know which ones are what they say they are.

Good to see you again too Lymetoo! I haven't been here much since achieving remission. I do want to come here occassionally to encourage others though. Its been a long hard road, but things are looking up.

Yes, a health food store is best. Hopefully, they do their homework and they know which companies are good. You have to have a good store owner.

I like NOW brand for just about anything.

My husband's doctor gave him a prescription for fish oil (Lovaza). He said it is the purest fish oil. That's why he prescribes it.

It IS pricy.
