I was looking at New Chapter, but some ingredients have sulfur. I have issues with sulfur....but have noticed I am becoming a little less sensitive. For now though, I still think I should find one without the extra sulfur.

Thanks.

I have severe sulfur sensitivity and do fine with Thorne Research's Pic-Mins, which contains selenium and a handful of other (needed/good) trace minerals.

A few Brazil Nuts a day can do the trick. First thing in the morning can help make the day go better.

If you want without sulfur, you might go Keebler's route of the brazil nuts.

I have used Country Life brand selenium for extended periods here and there, when needed, over the years. They have two versions, and I've used the one which is yeast-free, which is selenomethionine, meaning as methionine has sulfur, so will this. It really is a good version if sulfur isn't an issue. Their other version apparently has yeast in it.

Good to know. I eat a ton of them each day!

Thanks for these suggestions.

For now maybe I'll go with my sulfur-sensitive friend's suggestion of the Thorne product. Thanks Razzle. There is some overlap with the Core supplement I take. That should be ok, right?

I think I will add in some Brazil nuts for good measure. Thanks Keebler.

Thorne also has selenium by itself, as selenomethionine. That's the same form that is in the Pic-Mins.

I don't know why I am ok with it, but maybe it is because it is combined with molybdenum in Pic-Mins.

Haven't tried the selenium by itself...

You can look up the amounts of the trace minerals in Pic-Mins here:
http://thorne.com/Products/Minerals/Multi_Minerals/prd~M243.jsp (might need to click the Ingredients tab)

Selenomethionine:
http://thorne.com/Products/Minerals/All_Minerals/prd~M225.jsp

Edited to add links above, and again to add:

I started the Pic-Mins at half a capsule/day, and when I was ok with that much for a week or so, then I increased to a full capsule/day.

I can't guarantee you'll not have a sulfur issue with it, but so far, I haven't had a problem with it myself.

Hi Razzle,

Now this is strange.....according to iherb, the ingredients for Thorne Pic-Mins show selenium as selenium picolinate. You can even click on the bottle and see the back label showing this. Just about every mineral listed is in Picolinate form. That's probably why it's called Pic-Mins.

But it strange that Thorne's website shows it in the other form????

Ok I just looked at my bottle and it shows the selenium as selenium picolinate too! Good catch! I bet they made an error on the website...

But if you want to make sure, maybe call Thorne at 1-800-228-1966. They're in Idaho, which is Mountain Time (2 hours earlier than East Coast time).

Ok, so I just called... They said it must have been reformulated and is now Selenomethionine. She couldn't tell me how recently they reforumlated. I wonder if the one iherb has in stock is the old formulation or the new one (and they just haven't updated the product info)??

I may just by a plain stand-alone selenium picolinate or selenium glycinate.

Oh noooo!!!! [Mad] Thanks for letting me know.

Jeez...those of us with sulfur tolerance issues really need a company dedicated to eliminating sulfur...

So many companies seem so intent upon adding sulfur! Soooooo frustrating!!!

"Some metals have a narrow physiological range. That means the difference between a therapeutic dose and toxic overdose is very small. Selenium is an example of this."

Selenium should be tested with ART and with some of your other supplements together. Your doctor probably has a sample to test.

Take care.

Great link GiGi, thank you. Yes, I will discuss with my ART doctor at my next appt.

I remember the female doc I saw out in Seattle said I was low in Selenium at the time. Somehow it didn't last long in my protocol. I sort of forgot about it. Will follow-up.

Razzle - I know what you mean. But sulfur is good for so many people for so many reasons. This makes me all the more focussed on getting over my sulfur sensitivity. I remember Dr. K saying during one of his talks that once you treat KPU, sulfur tolerance is often increased. I think once we correct deficiencies it will all work out.

But how to we correct the deficiencies if we can't get the supplements with which to correct them in forms we can tolerate?

My sulfur sensitivity keeps on getting worse, even though I am taking the supplements needed for trans-sulfuration to support my CBS mutation (CBS C699T +/+) and am trying hard to avoid all sources of sulfur. Why??? I wish I knew.

So how do I correct the deficiencies while I'm still sulfur sensitive, if the companies making the supplements I need keep on insisting on making everything with sulfur? I don't know how to do this, or where to turn for alternatives.
