Our daughter has a sensitivity to sulfites.

So it is my understanding that Charcoal, and Glutathione are not to be used.

Other than fresh lemon and water is there anything else that would be safe to help lessen a herx, etc?

Thanks so much.

Modified citrus pectin

Would she be able to take Curcumin or Tumeric?

Thorne Meriva 500 is good.

She needs Molybdenum and methylcobolamin. Make sure also that she is getting sufficient magnesium, zinc, and that she is not iron deficient.

Meriva is not good for sulfite sensitive individuals.

Citrus pectin - haven't tried it but it is on my list to try. I am unaware of sulfite issues with citrus pectin.

Yes, charcoal & chlorella may be a problem.

Magnesium should be fine as long as it is NOT magnesium citrate. All mineral citrates are derived from corn, which means they are sulfited.

PM me with your email address if you want a list of ingredients that contain or may contain sulfites.

Thanks, Beth and fourwinds.

Thanks , Razzle, looks like I need to start researching some sources for safe vitamin and minerals.

I do have your list. Thanks [Smile]

Razzle,

Is methylcobalamin the preferred b12 for someone with a cbs mutation?

Thanks so much

I've heard different things, so I'm not sure.

For me, I seem to tolerate it best. All I can suggest is trying methyl-B12 and if that causes more problems, try hydroxy-B12.

Avoid cyano-B12, as that form never did me any good and then I started getting side-effects...body has to work harder to convert it to a useable form (methyl-B12) and then has to detox the cyano part of it.

I use Thorne Research Molybdenum Picolinate, seem to do well with it.

Razzle or Jane, would you please give some more information on why charcoal is not to be used for sulfite-sensitive individuals?

I am sensitive too. I had a bad reaction to glutathione and also to cholestyramine.

I was actually about to try charcoal so I appreciate the information!

I have had good results with dry brushing, sauna and yoga. I am also able to tolerate lemon water and epsom salt baths; they just seem to do less for me.

Charcoal is derived from coconut hulls, which are sprayed with sulfites.

Because the coconut hulls are then burned (to turn them into charcoal), and because sulfites become stronger/more concentrated when heated, this process makes charcoal a risky thing for someone with sulfite sensitivity to try.

Aha. Got it. Thank you so much for this information. I will definitely avoid charcoal. I wish my LLMD knew as much about this stuff as the people on here!

I'm allergic to sulfites, and I can handle Takesumi activated charcoal just fine. It comes from bamboo. It's an excellent product and helped me get through a difficult detox recently.

Robin,

Thanks for sharing that! I was hoping to find a charcoal that was free of sulfites, and had basically given up.

Thank you!

Diatomaceous Earth (food grade) is another good binder.

I think Razzle is spot-on with the supps. I would also add the methylated version of folic acid (I like Thorne MTHF 1m). I bet your daughter has MTHFR which makes it hard to detox. This will help.

Thanks everyone. [Smile]

Yes, Tammy she does have MTHFR.

I recently learned there's a detox test through www.23andme.com that can let us know our methylation genetics and more, for $99. It will show whether we have the MFTHR enzyme defect going on, and more.

Once the genetic enzyme defects are located, it makes it easier for detox docs to know how to treat us.

I saw a chart of methylation yesterday - there are five areas and they overlap. The enzymes were in little boxes - over 20 of them checked for in this saliva test.
