My son went to the ER last night with tonsillar cyst.

It was growing fast and would probably obstructed his airway if he hadn't been tx in time.

They gave him IV clindamyacin, IV steroids, and hydrocodone and also drained the abcess.

He was given a ten day course of clindamyacin, six-day pack of steroids and a script for hydrocodone.

We are aware that clindamyacin can cause of c-diff.

He went to Whole Foods and they did not have Florastor, so he got Jarrow brand s. boullardii and Garden of Life probiotics. I usually get Theralac, but they did not have it.

Do you all know if Jarrow brand S. Boullardii is any good? Also, Garden of Life probiotics ( I googled this one and it got good reviews.)

But would like to hear from you guys if you have experience with these.

Also, how much of each should he take each day? I have also read that it is best to take probiotics with food.

Also, I have read that clindamyacin works on lyme, so am hoping it will help cover the steroid use if he has any residual lyme in his system.

He has been in remission for five years. Am praying he stays that way.

Thanks for any input and your prayers.

Thanks, WP.

He's so far away, and doesn't always tell me everything because he doesn't want me to worry.

Just feeling so helpless.

I took oral clindamycin for 5 years with no C diff ever! It kept the Lyme at bay - it's bacteriostatic, not cidal. Then it didn't work anymore and I'm simply taking curcumin.

I did get C diff once, from a course of erythromycin for an ear infection. I was put on IV all nite at a hospital and that took care of it - no big deal.

I don't think you have to worry any more about clinda than any other abx. I'm not a doctor - that's my opinion.

Thanks, Robin.

There are just so many horror stories about clindamycin.

What kind of IV did they use to treat you?
