My daughter has bronchitis and had a flare up with her allergies/asthma.

Nothing we have tried, not even her inhalers are working.

We started a script of steroids this morning.

The doctor (not lyme-literate) also prescibed a z-pack.

DD has been in remission from lyme for about five years.

Am concerned about the steroids and any dormant lyme she may have.

Do you guys think a z-pack is enough to cover?

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your girl. I have no definite for sure answer, but Dr. B in his guidelines says treatment is needed while on steroids. Zith tends to have a long "shelf life" in the body, more so than others, so maybe use that as your basic guide.

In other words, if you use steroids for 7 days and have 5 days zith, that may be fine. But if it is 3 weeks of steroids and 5 days of zith I'd be concerned.

Three forms of Lyme: Cell Wall Form, Cystic, and Intracellular

Zithromax would be used for intracellular penetration

What to use for cell wall form? Minocycline??

Lyme is bad i know but this bug is bad all by itself

It was a six-day pack of steroids, and the z-pack had six pills, which stay in the system for a couple of weeks, I think.

So far she is doing ok. Her respiratory sx are much better. This go round was the worst she has ever had.

We usually control it with an Advair inhaler which she has tolerated over the past few years without any problems.

Scary when nothing else works [Frown]

I really don't think we had a choice, just wish there was another way to do this.

Good to hear she is better, but I can understand the worry you must feel about the next time. Hopefully, in all my hopes and prayers for you, there won't be a next time.

Tincup, thanks for the kind words.

Ip, it wasn't life-threatening yet, but certainly had the potential.

She's done with the steroids and abx, but still isn't over it. Coughing some and losing her voice now.

Nasty bug [Frown]

I had to take IV Rocephin for a kidney infection about three years ago and didn't have any Lyme come out, thankfully. I know that's different from steroids.

Maybe when she's done with treatment for this, you might do a round of photon treatment just to be sure.

I don't know. I'm still afraid of them.
