I am having UTIs about every 19-12 mos. very hard to get rid of when they hit. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

A "ton of water" can be too much. Somewhere around 3 qts a day might be a good amount until you can call your doctor's office and ask - for your body - the amount they suggest.
Your LLMD's nursing staff may be the best to ask.
Still, be sure that the water is equally spread out and not too much all at once. That can be too hard on the kidneys to have to do flood control. -

- A CULTURE might be the best to determine just what is going on, pathogen wise. Of course, it depends on what they look for as they won't find something if they don't set the parameters correctly for certain things.
Aside from candida (which you've considered), there can be various fungal variables.
And with lyme there can be other pathogens as well. And I'm just all out of steam. Do try to get someone to look at this under a microscope and with an open mind.

A spoon full of baking soda in a glass of water works for me. It makes the bacteria slide off the bladder walls.

I was having one after the other about 7 yrs ago and a doctor told me to DO SOMETHING to change the PH of my urine, such as taking Vit C.
Since I don't tolerate C, I asked a local naturopath what to do and he said to take D-Mannose.
I have not had another infection since then! I take it twice a day rather "religiously."
You could even live on the wild side and take it once a day!! Then it would cost you $5 a month.

my doc did urinalysis. I wish they would tell you what kind of infection instead of just saying "yep you've got a bladder infection. take this for 10 days."

Typically when a doc sends you for a UA he/she orders a U/C (culture) if infection is suspected. That culture result is typically available 48 hours later.
As for prevention of UTIs, the only thing that has worked for me is a supp that combines cranberry, pomegranate and probiotics. The name escapes me at the moment but I will report back when I remember!

Most likely randibear. You wouldn't want an untreated uti to progress to a life-threatening kidney infection. Best bet is to try to prevent them in the first place. Check out the supp I mentioned above.

D'Mannose was a god send for me.
It is expensive, I paid about $40 a bottle if I remember rightly, but it brought me back from the brink of insanity (UTI's will drive anyone squirrelly) and getting unnecessary surgery on my bladder.
Treating bartonella also made a big difference long term.
Also, I still cannot tolerate orange juice and diet-drinks. (Those with lyme should avoid diet products anyways, as aspartame is really bad for our neurons).

Greta .. see above.. It does not have to be expensive.
Randi.. SOMETIMES you can clear an infection with D-Mannose, but it can be risky. You have to take it every two hours or so.. for days.

Not risky at all!
It has worked every time for us and for friends we have recommended it to who were in a full-blown UTI with fever, etc.
Yes, you have to be persistent, but-I am very serious- symptom relief was almost always by the next day. You have to try it to believe it.
I would start with approx. a gram every several hours.

Just risky if it goes quickly to a kidney infection... which it CAN do sometimes.
I have used it successfully to treat what I thought was an infection. Sometimes I don't know for sure if it's infection or my IC.
If someone were to use this to "cure" an infection, they would need to get started on it ASAP.

D-Mannose did nothing for me. We are all different.
IMO as someone who has had a number of kidney infections, your best bet is to get yourself to an ER asap if you are febrile with a UTI. This is nothing to fool around with.

ha...doc said urine perfectly clear. no bladder or kidney infection.
