I am taking activated charcoal for a severe die off reaction and I need something to make sure it is all removed from my body.

Charcoal started to work for a few days, then I began to feel the severe mental die off symptoms again.

I am wondering if I am not removing the waste fast enough.

Coffee enemas help a little, but not completely, I think.

I have tried mangosteen juice but it was not effective for me.

Has anyone tried psyllium husks and did they work? Also, I am hoping they are not anti-bacterial b/c I do not need any more die off.

Any help would be appreciated.

Magnesium and more magnesium.

Psyllium can cause contipation if you don't drink enough water with it. Some are sensitive to it, also.

You could also try ground chia seeds. They work well and don't taste bad.

Wow we are riding in the same boat. Your situation is not funny but I couldn't help but laugh because I am drinking magnesium citrate as I just opened lymenet and read your post.

This yeast, constipation, mental stuff sucks. Maybe the charcoal is backing us both up. Magnesium supplements will make you go,Im choosing the strong route with the bottle mag citrate right now cause Im miserable.

Ive played a lot with metamucil and as for me it constipated me more, drink plenty if you go that route.

Magnesium will work much faster. Hopeing you feel better

Joe, we have to laugh, what else can we do? I just hope the boat we are on is sailing somewhere good.

Joe and Lymetoo, please tell me what kind of mag supplements I should be taking and what mg dosage and how many per day.

How long does the mag citrate take to work?

Joe, I'll toast you with a bottle.

magnesium keeps me regular.

I take

Natural Calm

Thanks, Lisa, I googled it and it is magnesium with citric acid, correct? Is it a liquid?

How much do you take per day? Did it help with any mental symptoms?

Magnesium oxide will produce loose stools. Once you get things moving you can switch to magnesium glycinate (best absorbed by the body) or magnesium citrate.

The juice of half of a lemon squeezed into a glass of warm water is helpful, followed by another glass of warm water.

Some people need additional fiber, as well. Renew Life has a good selection of products such as Organic Triple Fiber and Organic Bowel Cleanse.

Also, Smooth Move herbal tea works well.

You take mag to "bowel tolerance" .. when you get too much you will know about it!! [Smile]

Everyone's dosage will be different.

Some mag types like citrate and oxide work much more readily for constipation. Mag glycinate usually doesn't have much of an effect on it.

The liquid mag citrate would work the fastest, but it is very harsh. Only do that when desperate.

Natural Calm is OK if you can tolerate the citric acid and flavorings.

I take ReMag and ReLyte from www.rnareset.org

Dietary Fiber essential, of course (be sure your diet has veggies with each meal and every snack).

Psyllium is an excellent "mover / scrubber". I'm not sure whether it would absorb nutrients or not so you may want to read up on that.

Seven Forests Rhubarb 17 has also been excellent in my experience.

RHUBARB - for colon support

Of course, magnesium still important. Be sure to take 3-4 x day. It has to be a divided dose. Too much at one time can tax the kidneys. Even one large dose can be too taxing.

Re the mangosteen, maybe it's a matter of the amount of mangosteen in the juice. I noticed that when the Ultra version cut back on the mangosteen from 450 to 250mg that it didn't work for me anymore re keeping intestines regular.

I drink the Mango-Xan version daily, which stops constipation for me. In health food stores and online.

I ONLY do the mag citrate in a bottle when Im desperate, its pretty intense, its what is used often before a colonoscopy.
To keep regular just use an oral mag supplement,I've used oxide and citrate with good results. I believe oxide isn't absorbed well so its actually good for moving stool.
I usually take a gram of mag wait an hour or two and keep repeating until bowel tolerance as mentioned above.
Not to be gross but the mag citrate is kicking in and yes dark black constpated stool from the charcoal, sorry gross.
Drink a lot with the oral mag supplements.
some nice calm water and a gentle breeze on the island of tolerable would do.

If I may say a little about my struggles with constipation and phsycho and neuro stuff. I remember two times being real sick and not feeling constipated at all.

One time I thought I was having a stroke, muscles would move right, face, legs and arms numb,my mind racing away.Off to the ER,scary as hell.Everything came back normal except a scan showed I was backed up beginning to end yet I didn't feel like I was.

Another time I was just about as sick, called the GI doc and he took me in right away and did an exray and sure enough again I was backed up from beginning to end and I didn't feel like it,no bloating no pain. Whenever I know I haven't gone well enough I get really pscho and neuro along with fatigue. Constipation really causes nurd -brain stuff.

Now a couple of the best days Ive had was a day after clearing out for a colonoscopy and the day after clearing out for an upper GI test. I learned the hard way and I still can't seem to fix it but if you have neuro-psch stuff going on try and make sure you are going regular.

It is beyond explaining how torturous it is to have these neuro-phys yeast gut things.

Thanks everyone for all the good suggestions-- much appreciated. I am going to try the mag oxide to tolerance.

I also got the Natural Calm just in case.

Joe you make a good point about constipation. Ever since doing the anti-Candida diet, I don't get any sx of constipation.

I just know it is happening b/c I'm keeping track. Don't worry, I'm beyond getting grossed out.

Torturous is a good word to describe the issues, esp. psych. I went thru severe herxes before for Lyme, babesia, ehrilichia die off but nothing like this.

I have always been fairly strong mentally. I never knew the human brain was capable of the gyrations mine is going through.

One minute I might feel ok, then wham I get slammed again.

The days I felt better showed me when the toxins are being absorbed and eliminated, I can feel normal.

But figuring out how to do this consistently requires more expertise than I have.

I have an appt. with a LLMD later in June, but I don't even know if she will have the answers I need.

Haaa the island of tolerable. Let me know when we get there.

Neuro issues could be from a lack of B vitamins.

thats exactly how I am,from minute to minute my health changes. I can start off OK and end the day a wreck and visa versa. I have my guesses to why this is.
Seems whatever is going on in you GI tract is happening in mine.
I have kept a journal of what I eat and bowel movements for years.
We will figure it out,I hope.
If you eat carbs for a couple of days do you feel more neuro or have a racing mind? Insomnia, nightmares?

Can i join this conversation with a question?

Is senna bad for you?

I stay regular with mag and C but i will be starting binders soon and have a serious problem history with them

I need to take them now and wonder if using senna has any negative affects. Its what i use when my c and mag dont work or i run out.

I usually use one smooth move cup of tea and six hours later all is good. But i dont hear many say they use it so i wonder if it can hurt me. Thanks.

Joe--Hey I have always wanted to share my GI tract with someone lol. I eat very low carb but I have not noted a correlation b/w the carbs and how I feel.

But I will pay better attention.

Catgirl- I realized I had stopped a lot of my supplements and vitamins over the past month because I have been dealing with the kidney stones and I couldn't even eat.

So, I have added my B vitamins and other supplements back in.

I have had a lot of neuro issues before, for which B1 was helpful- such as cognitive impairment incl. memory loss, diff. with planning, etc.

The issues I have had since being strict with the anti-Candida diet I would call "psych" not just neuro. It is the first time I have ever had any of these psych issues although I had anxiety and depression.

The new issues include fear, twisted reality, panic, severe OCD, over emotionalism, crying for hours. And that doesn't even cover the horror of it.

I'm hoping upping magnesium might also help.

Kayak .. You can use it once in awhile, but long term you could become dependent on it.

Another consideration is that it will stain your colon. Next time you have a colonoscopy your GI DR will fuss at you about it!

It's not harmful, but I think the staining is permanent.

Posted by smokingsky (Member # 37863) on :

Kayak-- you are welcome to the discussion of course. I just don't know anything about senna.

Robin123,

Do you know how does the Mangosteen works for you? Does it make a sluggish bowel less sluggish? or does the make stool softer? Or what?

I have tried it without success but need to check the mangosteen concentration.

Thanks.

wow this is a really good discussion. I have a problem with constipation and have severe psych and neuro...and they DO get worse when things are backed up! wowza. I would take charcoal and get even more backed up.

i've also had scans that show being backed up, with no pain or feeling that way.

What can safely be used to eliminate constipation? For me it always felt related to the infections.....but maybe I have been understimating candida since Diflucan kicks my ^*(.

Magnesium.

You can buy the one Burrascano recommends on line:

Mag-tab SR (sustained release), sold by Niche Pharmaceuticals

Take at least twice per day. You will have to figure out the amount that is right for you.

This way, you will be providing your body with an absorbable form of magnesium (which all lyme patients need) and will eliminate constipation all at the same time.

No more muscle cramps, etc.

I have also used Natural Calm that I bought in a health food store.

The Mag-Tab SR gets delivered very quickly!

so now that I FORGOT to take my mag for the right doses for days!!!!!!!!!! I am so constipated, but I am not sure it is just from that, and I am getting panicky.

I am back to taking my mag for a few days and not sure I feel a difference. I am getting really frustrated. I was trying to think of what I did different lately that could make it worse.... I took advil for pain.

can advil make you constipated?? I never take it and I jsut couldn't stand my pelvic pain any more.

I even upped my regular dose of mag and its not really helping.

so many factors though.... I have been making many changes to my diet and meds lately

I was using Psyllium husk, then i read that it is also seriously contaminated with roundup, like conventional wheat and it has to be organic,

Anyone else know anything about this?
