Has anyone had strep during treatment? My daughter gets Strep very easily, and we just found out that she was with a friend who was dx w/ Strep. She has had a really bad few days, we were assuming from Herx, but now we aren't so sure. Does anyone know if Doxy would kick Strep? The Rifampin dose is not high enough I don't think b/c she is not yet on full strength.
THANKS

Doxy should cover strep but watch it carefully -- especially for fever. Strep can be an opportunistic infection in Lyme and get pretty bad.

thanks, she may have had a low grade fever, but she doesn't always present w/ fever when she has strep. I hate to take her in to pediatrician and explain all the meds she is on if I don't have to, as you know they do not "get it". (grrrr)

I tested positive for systemic strep at my first LLMD appointment. It's not uncommon for those with Lyme.

Sadly, parents of children with lyme need to be very careful about perceptions especially from non-LL doctors, teachers, etc.

Talk to your state and local lyme support groups to find lyme "friendly" doctors and maybe also get the lay of the land regarding school staff.

Munchausen: Unusual Suspects - by Pamela Weintraub

2007 - last reviewed on November 10, 2010

Call them the Munchausen mothers. A growing number of women stand accused of deliberately sickening their children for attention from doctors. In an era of patient advocacy and hard-charging moms, there's no end in sight to this hotly contested diagnosis.
