I have just been switched from Bactrim to Rifampin today by my LLMD. I am hoping I can get feedback from those that have tolerated it well. I have read many post of those who could not tolerate it either from side effects or Herx.

I began treatment targeting Bartonella around the end of September on Bactrim and Clarithimycin as well as High Dose Amoxicillin and Probedicid. I have speech and balance/walking symtptoms that have not improved since starting the Bartonella treatment 4 months ago but i have heard that it usually takes up to 6 months to see any improvement. Hoping the Rifampin makes the improvement I need.

I have been on many other ABX since starting Lyme treatment the end of 2018 and the only one thus far I could not tolerate was Minocycline.

I remembered we spoke regarding balance issues. I still have that also, it is my main issue. I do not have bartonella yet my llmd wants me to start ceftin and rifampin and I was wondering the samething about that drug. I have read a lot of people do not tolerate it too good so I am looking forward to seeing who posts under this thread. Waiting to start mine also. Wishing you well with your new protocol. Hope it changes something positive for you.

Yes I remember communicating with you, I will share my own experience as I continue taking it. And I do hope we get some other helpful feedback on this thread.

Its hard when you only see negative reactions posted but good to hear those that have had good experience with it to give us hope rather than fear, of course we all react differently to everything but the more experience the better.

If you have issues you could try rifabutin. My llmd uses it instead of rifampin.

Lymetoo, would you please share how you felt while on it? thank you so much. My daughter was on it years ago and got very angry and mad on it. I immediately took her off. that was fifteen years ago. I am deathly afraid of even starting it because of her issues with it.

My lyme doc said it must have caused brain swelling in me. I had a massive headache beginning on Day 1 and I lasted 5 days.

It then took 3 weeks before the headache went away. It was terrible.

Hi Linda, I began last Tuesday 1 dose daily and started 2X daily Saturday I have so far tolerated it well aside from Herx symptoms of muscle aches in lower back area, feeling tired.
I have been doing normal detoxing with foot baths, burbur/pinella etc

Fingers crossed I continue to tolerate it as it seems to be the best answer to fighting Bart.

How are you doing since starting it?

I am taking it at the moment
300mg 2x daily along with azithromycin and Doxycycline - for around 3-4weeks now

no major side effects

some sleep disturbance for the first 2-3weeks
some increased achiness/tiredness at times
dark orange urine at times (common/normal with rifampicin )
poss the odd loose stool - but I attribute that to azithro
