Carpal tunnel can be very painful issue for anyone but especially for someone with lyme. It's best to avoid straining the wrists.

Also for everyone's safety so boiling water never has to be carried (also helpful when fishing out hard boiled eggs & also with chicken bones and straining the broth). Potatoes, Yams, "Flash" cooking green veggies, etc.

So, even for many here who don't consume pasta (even if gluten-free) this is valuable kitchen tool and good gift idea with many uses.

Also best for plumbing and disposal fittings to not have boiling water rushing down.

Best to avoid all plastics and even silicone from getting hot & cozy with our food (though as handles, silicone can be nice).

PIERCED skimmers and scoops are much easier to clean than woven mesh ones.
