I found the following interesting.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22057312

This article says that two of the children had the enterovirus in their blood.

http://www.newswise.com/articles/mysterious-polio-like-illness-found-in-five-california-children

Then I read this the journal article below which said this:
"In view of the present study, however, it seems plausible that tick transmission may contribute to the seasonality of enterovirus disease." Freundt et.al. 2005 (below)

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1169181/#!po=64.2857

So if, once again, they would open up their views about tick borne diseases and understand how inadequate testing is for co-infections they may start finding answers to troubling situations like this one.
