An injured stray has been hanging around my neighborhood for the past several days.

He is favoring his front left paw. I'd like to catch him, feed him, take him to the vet if he needs it.

He's very skittish and won't come when called, just runs the other way.

I put some food and water out on our front yard, but it hasn't been touched.

Any ideas on how I can go about catching him to give him the help he needs?

strays are especially skittish. I doubt if you can catch him. good luck tho. poor little thing just needs somebody.

can you get close enough to throw a blanket over him?

I dont know what to do unless you have a fenced area. Do you have "dogcatcher" or whatever they call it? Have you checked for lost dog ads? Maybe local pound or humane society would have ideas

The title broght me back 20 yrs or so to a dog that adopted us in upstate ny. I was single mom putting myself thru college and didnt have money for an extra mouth but kids really liked him and he was sweet

This is a sad story tho. After a week or two he ws walking funny...more in back than front. Then one day he couldnt get up. I took him to vet. He got worse and they didnt really know what it was but said it was some kind of paralyzing virus

Lyme was not on my radar-or the vets at the time

So my point...be careful...he could be really sick, have fleas or ticks...just be careful

He has that lost look that so many strays have. Looks over his shoulder at you then runs. Has his tail tucked.

I can't get close enough to do the blanket.

We have a fenced yard, but don't know how I could get him to go in. Maybe put some food by the back gate.

He would probably bolt before I could shut it.

We have animal control, but they're pretty much worthless.

Have called them before, but they didn't do anything.

He has a collar, so if I could get a look at it, maybe we could find his owner

Ipkayak, I will be careful. We know the risks, don't we?

I'm just that lady that picks up strays, so it's hard for me to resist.

Use hamburger to get him into the yard...far enough in so you can get the gate shut. Then you probably know what to do...hang out with him til he trusts you...good luck...dont fall in love

It's hard not to get attached. I already have two dogs and don't really need another.

We'll see what happens.

Left a bowl of food with a piece of bacon on top, but it wasn't touched.

Didn't see him at all today. Hope he is ok. I hate to think of him all cold and hungry out there [Frown]

Maybe I'll try the hamburger tomorrow.
