Identify the bug that bites you here;

https://cdn.orkin.com/downloads/orkin-insect-id-guide.pdf

I just got bit while reading a book outside sitting on my patio furniture. Within the past 2 weeks, I have gotten 2 bee stings, 2 mosquitos bites on back of neck and today bit by female dragonfly. The dragonfly may look pretty but by far the most painful. She lives in the rod-iron framing of my chair. Still hurts 1 hour later. All in my backyard. Essential oils do not work for bug protection !

This is a very good insect identification guide!

It is from the O. Orkin Insect Zoo at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, which does lots of good research etc. there, too.

Here's more on that:

Crazy weekend.
I thought I found a Japanese (Asian) hornet in my bathroom window (inside!). I posted a picture of it on Reddit and replies were that it was a Japanese hornet.

Called county health department, dept of agriculture, citizen science groups, all CLOSED.

After researching, I believe it is not the Japanese (Asian) hornet but the European hornet. Very similar. Its carcass is in a plastic bowl in the freezer. Folks this hornet is HUGE!!!!!!!!!! He measured 1 1/2 inches long and took 2 hours to kill after spraying with hornet spray.

I found where he drilled through outside window caulking and I used mortar to seal it up. Here's how to tell the difference.
