THE MAGIC PILL (2017) - Netflix link

Other streaming options, DVD library loans, also available.

Documentary - "Doctors, farmers, chefs and others weigh in on the controversial ketogenic diet and its potential to eradicate common illnesses" - in various countries.

The Australia footage turns literally delightful, just delightful. All the people highlighted warmed my heart.

Not just about paleo / low carb / very low carb / ketogenic food plans, though (and each of those can differ from the others).

Everyone can enjoy this film and gather key elements regardless of their food plan. It's for anyone who eats - period.

There is eye-opening information about food quality, processes and the relationship to the health of the soil in the fields, etc.

Where you may read that certain health organizations or even government agencies may not agree, please watch the film first as it explains the corporate ties that may cause such push-back.

All in all, I found this to be a delightful film. So very well done. I will remember some of these people forever.

THE CHARLIE FOUNDATION

. . . The Charlie Foundation received the American College of Nutrition’s 2017 Humanitarian Award for being "an organization that has worked selflessly and effectively in the broader field of nutrition to benefit humanity." . . . .

. . . Theere are five variations of the Ketogenic Diet which have been published in medical literature as effective treatments for diseases that have an underlying metabolic dysregulation, such as

epilepsy, cancer, and Alzheimer’s.

The original Ketogenic Therapy, known as the classic Ketogenic Diet, or classic Keto for short, was designed in 1923 . . . for the treatment of epilepsy. . . .

[poster's words now] Wonderful Chart - scroll down to see the formations for variations of the ketogentic diet.

Sometimes, throughout history, also called the Banting Diet.

Other key names if you want to learn more:

Prof. Tim Noakes (from S. Africa); Dr. Gary Fettke (Australia); Dr. Eric Westman (Duke University in N.C., USA and his group Keto ADAPT);

Ivor Cummins (Ireland); Dave Feldman (USA) -- both present top detail about cholesterol, lipids & cardiac matters

Dr. Stephen Phinney (Virta Health, Indiana w/ Dr. Sarah Hallberg); Dr. Jeff Gerber (Colo.); and Dr. Jason Fung (Canada)

and so many others through -- yes, delightful -- presentations with

Low Carb Down Under; Low Carb USA websites / YouTube.

For those who stream onto their TV, YouTube channel so convenient to cozy up into a chair with your notepad. Were it not for this I would not have been able to sit and take in so many presentations these past months.

Be careful about the "citizen" blogs as I call them. Many are geared to making "keto" desserts with fake sugars (very slippery slope here, folks), selling "keto" products, etc.

Metabolic dysregulation, regardless of the type or manifestation is why anyone would consider any variation of the low carb approach.

IMO, fake sweeteners - at least more than just a little bit once a day - can mess with brain and metabolic chemistry in ways we may not be able to yet determine.

2FItDocs have two recent videos in which they test various artificial sweeteners and stevia for blood glucose, though. Stevia was about the only one that seemed okay in that regard.

And keep in mind there are no "keto" pills if you see websites selling pills such as exogenous ketones. Avoid. There are a lot of scammers out there.

2FitDocs also tested the exogenous ketone powders recently on a YouTube blog. They have a website as well.

This is about food that you eat / don't so that your body can burn your own fat as fuel along with good nutrition you provide.

Magnesium supplementation, Sea Salt and mineral rich veggies such as kale, other leafy greens are a must, though.

MCT oil might be the one keto specific supplement for some later on. Doctor's guidance best. Not required at all, though.

Three video bloggers that I hold in high regard are:

2FitDocs; Keto Christina (She is Irish living in France, excellent), & 2 Keto Dudes for their personal knowledge & fabulous guest interview.

For starters something that might be hard to swallow yet is so important to consider regarding glucose / fructose management -- and your liver (yes, your liver):

Dr. Gary Fettke - 'Is Fruit Good or Bad For You?'

22:48 - Oct. 2017 - Dr. Fettke is an Orthopaedic Surgeon in Australia.
