Which is better to donate to???

Lyme Disease Coalition, Inc.
Lyme Disease Association, Inc

I sell on ebay and these are the 2 (!!!) lyme disease charities they have listed to donate to. Are either one good?

sorry if I forget- my bart brain just cannot hold on to details!

My personal favorite is one which you did not list, namely, the LDO (Lyme Disease Organization) because of their very outstanding website and newsletters.

Then, in this case of having only two choices, I am familiar with the work of the LDA, which is very good, but not with the other one -- although my unfamiliarity with it doesn't mean that it's not good also.

Try doing an internet search for both of them and then make up your own mind.

At each organization's website, there should be detail about their status as a non-profit or a not for profit. They should display a 501 (c) 3 status as a tax deductible donation receiver, etc.

You can see their board of directors, see how long they've been an organization and also search their board members and officers for their backgrounds and affiliations.

The agency, itself, should also have a list of affiliations or sometimes their reference lists to get a sense of their standing among peer groups.

You should also be able to see their mission statement and articles of incorporation, etc. for which ever states they are licensed - or otherwise authorized - to operate.

It's important that they a have a president, vice-president, treasurer and secretary and usually additional board members that serve specific terms.

Many medical / health non-profits will also have a medical advisory board. This matters. Who is on that list matters, as per their affiliation (and mind-set) to certain professional or governmental groups.

There may be some small groups that have a focused purpose within one county or geographic area and do just one thing (or a few). Still, on balance, they should still have good detail at their organization's website.

Lyme Disease Association.

Approximately 97-98% of their income goes directly to education, research and even the fund for children.

I see their results and they are excellent.

I would go with LDA, too in that case.

Though the Lyme Disease Coalition is a good local (Susquahanna Co. PA) group
