Hi Marnie
This post is very interesting but what I wanted to know was -
what quantity and brand of magnesium malate to use? + what amount of B6 to take with it?
Is it okay to take this with antibiotics?

At the moment I take a multivitamin + a B vitamin 200mg elemental magnesium, a selenium +zinc+ MSM supplement but am on abx - my germ load of Babesia and Lyme is high.

Will this help or do I need to alter my regime in some way in your opinion??

(P.S i can't take coQ10 as i'm on atovaquone.)

thanks
Emma

Emma...I understand your wanting the best of both worlds. Truly, I do.

However, this is VERY difficult. If you were NOT on abx., I could make suggestions or would direct you to follow Clarice's lead...as it definitely is helping her and her husband.

But with abx.therapy, which ALSO reduces various amts. of vitamins and minerals, this compounds the problem. Which supplements, how much, how often (esp. the water soluable vitamins)?

All antibiotics deplete the "friendly bacteria". Yes, probiotics indeed help, but how much is needed to MAINTAIN THEIR "health" too? You did not mention probiotics. If you are not on them, start supplementing...yesterday. Choose the best - quality varies tremendously.

COQ10 is in many foods and we make it when we exercise too. If all you can do is drum your fingers, then drum your fingers. The point is...keep moving!

No Milk Thistle to protect the liver?

Which multiple vitamin? Pharmanex is the best, but costly. Recommended by Dr. B in his guidelines. There IS a difference in quality of all supplements.

Eat ONLY healthy. NO junk.

For those who are VERY malnourished, there is a product that can be ordered thru Walgreens online. It is called: Impact Recover. It is a "medical food".

According to the manufacturer, you may mail order it by the case only from Walgreens Home Delivery by calling 1-800-828-9194 or accessing www.resource.walgreens.com. Their case price for 30 packets is $74.99 and the S&H is free. It is avail. in orange citrus, wild raspberry and coffee mocha flavors.

To see what's in it, go here: www.novartisnutrition.com

"Click on the USA flag on the first page and on the second page under the heading of "Information Tools" click on the picture of our Pocket Guide and this opens to our entire product list and then click on the name of any product and it opens to detailed information."

When fighting a major disease, one needs a LOT of ENs (essential nutrients). We cannot eat the quantity of foods nec. to supply these nutrients which are being depleted by the pathogen and by the abx.

What recommendations re: supplements does your LLMD suggest?

Dr. B's guidelines re: supplements come the closest. But for the average person...they are numerous and expensive.

Those that offer the most for the money are worth the extra $.

For example, Pharmanex vits/minerals contain a LOT more nutrients than say, Centrum. For example, Pharmanex also contains grape seed extract, milk thistle and glucosomine. More bang for the buck...fewer individual bottles. They come in packs of 5 pills (serving size) and should be taken WITH a meal.

Wishing you wellness,
M.

Yes. But I am not a doctor and ask that those who consider it to PLEASE discuss this with their doctors - ESPECIALLY those with kidney/heart problems.

ok. Where can I find specifically the protocol to share with my dr? Do I share parts one and two and then have him/her guess. I know mag is part of the formula, but what other supps? How much, how often. Do you start with some and slowly add others etc?

Thanks,
noodlydoo

Hi All,
Beef heart is a good source of Co-Q10, this should help a little.

To maximize absorption of Co-Q10, mix powder in a saturated fat. One cardiology study on Co-Q10 mixed this in coconut oil for the express purpose of maximizing absorption, and hopefully utilization of the Co-Q10. The study reported very good results.

Hi everyone,

I've been taking the supplements from Pharmanex and have found them to be very helpful.

I was wondering what kinds of vitamins/supplements are good/safe for children with lyme?

Thanks.

Thanks for bringing this topic back up again. I was one who missed it the first time around.

You've just gotta' LOVE the ironic sattire of Marnie's subject headline though, don't 'cha?

"In a nutshell" -- implying pithy, succinct, brevity -- and then the qualifying statement about its being 17 pages long.

Thanks, Marnie, for summarizing all this valuable info for us. It does help make it a lot easier to comprehend when it's all spelled out in one or two main documents, for easier reference. You've got style, Marnie.

PS - While you're busy editing this document, Marnie, could you please try to do something about fixing those longish links so that they don't make the page too wide to print out right? If you don't know how to do that (and I'm one who doesn't), then Danq has posted a tutorial topic about how to post long links in the Computer Forum for us.

MARNIE,
Hi, you seem like you've done your research. I wanted to email you but I can't. I don't know as much as you do but I think you're right, what I understood. I think abx are not the best way, but are there any docs with your perspective? I'd rather go alternative and I take some supps you mentioned, but I would need more guidance.

Your ideas seem so promising, but what about a specific protocol? I bought the mag malate. I can't find more than 1..7 of your "In a nutshell".

So would you say it's a good idea to just stop abx and do high dose mag malate with b6 and what else? I've been on and off abx for like 3 or 4 years and I'm somewhat better but still sick.

Is there any way we can talk off the forum? Feel free to email me.
thanks very much -trev

Hi,
Many, many thanks for your hard work on this information. What a grand sister you are!

This is fabulous. I'm going to print it out & study it. It really gets down to the nitty gritty -------real answers here.

You're a gem.

Take Care,
Jan
