I have had to jump through so many hoops on this IV thing, and just when I finally got a doctor who would order the IV meds for me, I have run into another wall.
My doc doesn't have admitting privileges at a hospital for a picc insertion. The home health companies in TX will not allow peripheral ports to be used for a full month... they say that my veins won't hold up and they can't do it.
So I'm stuck with a doctor who will get me medicine, but no way to get it in me.
Does anyone know if stand alone radiology centers will allow a doctor who doesn't have hospital admitting privileges to order a picc line insertion?
Thank you for your help. I am so bummed right now that I had this almost all figured out and now I once again can't get what I need.

My llmd hooked me up with a doctor 4o miles away for the line...he suggests a chest port for six months therapy though...It is not a hosptial but a day faciltiyt hat does them.The llmd office did the work for me

I wish mine would do the work, but he's not used to doing this. TX is a state where doc's can get their licenses pulled almost immediately for treating lyme (another LLMD... Dr W just had his practice shut down), so unfortunately it was a miracle just to get this doc to go along with the IV.
I had to move to FL and live with my parents earlier this year for 2 months of IV, but then had to move back so I wouldn't lose my job.

Do you have written orders for the PICC line? If so, hubby just takes that to the outpatient dept at his chosen hospital and they schedule the procedure.
One time we did run into the same problem you are mentioning -- that time the hospital took the orders and had a doc (surgeon) with privileges rewrite the orders -- it was actually a nurse who did the procedure. I think they may have had to call his PCP who wrote the PICC line orders for some basic history and physical info.
Since we live in a small town there are no stand alone radiology centers so can't answer that question.

I had the same problem as you VB. Well my doctor had privileges just not anywhere near me. No one wanted to even come close to writing a 1 year picc treatment order for the LLMD. Whats the docotors office telling you? Should be there problem to figure this out, not yours. They shouldn't be giving out picc orders with no where to go. Id call them and push them more.
