I would really appreciate some input about my problems. All these time when I have been getting chills and sweating at the same time whether in my sleep or when I am awake. I assumed I had a low grade fever but recently after buying a forehead testing thermometer I was very surprised to find out that my temperature usually around 96.7 to 97.2. I already know that I have a hypo-thyroid and I have been taking synthroid for it. So what I want to know is could the Lyme be causing the low body temperature or what other reasons could it be? Every day when I take a nap in the afternoon I wake up freezing and sweating and this lost for hours even after I wakeup. Tylenol does help a little so that why I thought it was a fever. These so called fevers make me much more drained and weaker. I am so scared even to sleep at all. Is there anything I can do or take, to help lessen these Chills? Thanks you so much for any help.

Radha it will get a lot better.
It takes a long time treating to get back that warm feeling...
I did lots of Epsom soaks and drank lots of lemon water with Stevia.
We don't know what all causes it, but I suspect like most things in Lyme it is a combo of hormones, infections, and loss of cellular function.
I'm sure others have suggestions too...

Dear Radha,
Low body temperature is a very common symptom of Lyme disease and possibly co-infections. Tylenol is not going to do anything about the underlying cause.
Thyroid treatment is likely not to work, either, until the Lyme and Company situation is resolved.
Try searching the Lymenet database about this problem. I believe there is at least one doctor who uses herbs and directly addresses this situation.
Best,

The only way I know to keep warm is to turn the heat up, put on more clothes, or move around. I can't let my house get below 72 degrees or my nose, fingertips and toes are cold.
My body temp always hovers around 97 degrees. I haven't had a fever in years... even when I am very, very sick.

Low body temperature can also be caused by low iron. Many lyme patients are low in iron.

There is much talk about lyme being passed generation to generation... if the low body temp indicates a parasite presence... does that indicate parasites are also passed this way?
My mother, her mother, my son, my daughter, my sister... all had/have low 96-97 temperatures.

It always surprised me that all through this illness my daughter never ran a fever. In fact her temp is usually 97ish. Now I get it.

I cannot thank all of you enough for taking the time to add your input. It looks like I will be suffering from low body temperature until I can get ride of infection. I wish all of you relief and peace.
Sincerely, Radha.
