On new year's eve, I started salt/c with 1/2 tsp (3g) salt and 3g vitamin c 2 times a day.

Continued this dosage on day 2.

Saw so much coming out, I was encouraged to bump it up to 1/2 tsp (3g) salt and 3g vitamin c 3 times a day -- for a total of 9g that day.

From what I have read up to 20g of salt is perfectly safe - as long as the kidneys are working correctly.

I didn't take any salt/c yesterday morning because my son had an ND appt - 45 minute drive and I didn't want any bathroom emergencies.

On the way to the appointment, I noticed that leaning back in the driver's seat, my lower back felt bruised. I reached back and it is sore to touch.

When I got home, I had forgotten about the bruise and I took the 3g of salt/c.

Then, I noticed the bruise again.

I had my husband check it last night. I have a bruise about the size of a baseball next to my spine and above my waist. It is not dark, just slightly discolored. He asked if something had fallen on my back or if someone kicked me because it almost looks like the tip of a shoe.

I did not want to alarm him by telling him my suspicions. I believe, my kidneys are having an issue. [Frown]

I pulled out a book on nutrition and renal failure and don't think this is an issue. I am still going to the bathroom - both #1 and #2. Although I do feel a little constipated.

I am drinking ginger tea with lemon, lemon water, lots of water, taking solidago.

I am not sure whether it is kidney stones or an infection... My fear is there are a bunch of these bugs in there and they are holding on for dear life. I have gained 5 pounds. I was contributing that to water weight from the salt.

I don't get fevers. I haven't had one in 20 years. Even with several episodes including bone infection, walking pneumonia, high liver enzymes eventually led to continuous vomiting, my temp. does not rise above 98... So, no surprise, I don't have a fever.

I am NOT in a tremendous amount of pain. It is mild at worst... but I have a very high pain threshold and many instances of not feeling pain at all... until it is an emergency.

I don't have a doctor I can trust. My doctor thinks I am a hypochondriac. According to him, if I were sick, I would have a fever.

I thought about going back to the ND and having her muscle test me - that's my best option that I can see right now.

I am afraid a trip to the ER would most likely have no solution for me so I feel I am better off treating myself at home. When should I consider this an emergency?

Any ideas on how to clear the kidneys and get them to release?

Heather,

I saw you post on another thread about how to do this protocol safely and am very glad you found it. Nowhere on the net have I read to start at the doses you started at.

The key is to ramp up slowly and drink plenty of water. I have been doing this protocol for 4+ yrs and it has saved my life.

I have worked my way up to 20 gms over the yrs, but the recommended dose is 12 gms over a period of time. I am not suggesting anyone do 20 gms. You have to do what feels right for you.

Bottom line is to follow the protocol as suggested and RAMP UP SLOWLY.

Gael

Yes Gael, I found that link to how to do salt/c safely a bit too late for this issue.

I read the protocol I used as a guide at http://lymephotos.com/printableprotocol.html

This site is a bit misleading and leaves out the "ramp up slowly" part. That protocol says 1g per 10 pounds of body weight. Re-reading it just now, I see a small warning down the bottom of the page about high doses being hard on the stomach... and to "start with 3 grams each 5 times a day to get your daily total."

So, I thought starting with 3grams twice a day was starting slow.

Here is the link again to the safe way to do this:
http://www.fettnet.com/lymestrategies/grouphow.htm

Which again is 1 gram each per day... and slowly ramping up.

Update: I am drinking lots of water, lots of detox tea, took 15 drops of solidago, eating greens and vegetables, keeping up with my supplements, and did an 30 minute infrared sauna session.

I feel a little better, swelling has gone down and bowels have moved x2 I believe this will resolve on its own.

Dean Martens (an advocate of salt/c) says when he first started treating Lyme he started way too fast on salt/c and had kidney issues.

He stopped the protocol for 3-4 days and drank (his words) over 100 ounces of water per day to flush the kidneys.

He started back up, went slowly, and attributes salt/c to his recovery.

that's his website

Just thought I'd share

Thank you canefan17 - I appreciate that link. I read his story just now and it was very helpful to hear that this same thing had happened to someone else.

I am still drinking tons of water, detox teas, lemon water, coconut milk and much more water... so glad I just got a water filter or I think I would have gone through a case of bottled water today.

When I press on my kidney now there is only the hint of a bruise-like pain and the discoloration is already starting to fade.

Live and learn.

I do intend to start back up on the salt/c... very slowly. It was undeniably working.

You should do a dipstick of your urine -
looking for blood, protein and bacteria. You can order dipsticks at your pharmacy.

karen,

Protein in urine is easy to see in toilet. If your urine is really foamy it usually means your kidneys are overburdened with protein (poor digestion, etc)

momlyme, are you using Himalayan salt? That's the only kind I'd recommend using on the salt c protocol. Regular salt is NOT good for this protocol. In fact, regular salt isn't good for anything in my opinion when it comes to your health.

Dr. Mercola says, "Common table salt undergoes many chemical processes before its sold commercially. Its dried at over 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, altering its chemical structure. The end result is composed of 97.5% sodium chloride and 2.5% chemicals such as moisture absorbents and iodine.

The chemical-cleaning process leaves you with sodium chloride, a foreign, chemical salt. It has independent crystals that are isolated from each other.

As your body tries to isolate and metabolize the excess salt, water is taken from your cells. Water surrounds the sodium chloride, so it disintegrates into sodium and chloride ions. As a result, fluid imbalance occurs in your cells.

Too much processed table salt also causes fluid accumulation in your tissues, leading to:

Rheumatism, gout and arthritis
Unsightly cellulite
Gall bladder and kidney stones
Table salt contains dangerous preservatives to improve its pourability. These include magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, and aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum, an alloy that builds up in your brain, can cause Alzheimers disease".

Make sure you are using the right kind of salt, otherwise you could cause serious damage to your kidneys, not to mention other parts of your body as well.

Gary

Yes, I was bought Himalayan sea salt from vitacost. IMO, the issue was not the salt, but starting too quickly for my toxin load. I will try again at a slower pace after giving my body time to heal.

On another note, the extreme bruising and kidney pain began mostly on the right side. As the day went on, the pain on the right side subsided some and I had minimal pain in the left kidney.

Last night, I slept with detox foot pads and this morning the right was drenched with toxins while the left was not so saturated. I feel much better today and will continue to drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins.

mom,

That's awesome you're detoxing it!
Sounds like you had some major die off

I find that Lyme effects mostly my left side.
Sounds like it effects mostly your right (remember Lyme is migratory - coinfectons are not)

Thanks canefan and Tammy. Yes, today the pain is 90% gone. Slacked some on the detoxing today. Had to go to a doctor's appointment and forgot my water in the waiting room. [Roll Eyes]

I think if I had been home today and attentive to detoxing, I would be 100%.

The detox pads I use are Takara Detox Foot Patch (TM)

I buy them through this site:
http://www.takarapatch.com/

I put the pads on the middle of my foot for kidney detoxing. Here is the reflexology foot map:
