Doesn't sound like too much for people with a serious disease like ours. I copied and pasted this below.

The current RDA, 350 mg. per day, is considered to be sufficient but there is mounting evidence that this figure is lower than optimal intake and that this low level of magnesium contributes to all of the listed degenerative diseases. Until a better way is devised to determine optimal total body magnesium (TBM) consider supplementation and watch for results.

According to some docs, I've heard it said it's best to take magnesium either via IV or transdermally. Taking it orally feeds the Bb spirochetes and babesia. I feel like this puts us in a catch 22.

I've been struggling with this one.... Regular IVs are not an easy option for me right now (plus cost). I ordered the spray from Swanson but I don't know if I'm getting enough. I just started taking the oral again because I am trying to take the recommended supps for KPU, of which magnesium is a part of it.

Regarding doses, I've heard you can take it to bowel tolerance, then lighten up a bit.

My ILADS doc just started me on magnesium in preparation for levaquin. He said at least 500 mgs. and didn't say much more.

I've been directed to "take it to bowel tolerance (it's a mild laxative among other things) then back down until you find the precise amount your body needs, but not too much so you have loose bowels."

Also, take it periodically throughout the day, not just one lump at one time, preferably with other vitamins and food/snack if possible, and always at least 2 hours away from ABX.

If you don't feel great on the orals- like if it's too much on your stomach or something, MgCl lotion is available transdermally. You can find it online. I use Dr Healy's brand, but there are many others, too.

500 mg a day is fine.

If you get the runs, back down.
