Hubby has done both twice. The big disadvantage to the invanz(primaxin) is the 3 times per day IV's. In my opinion both are bacteriostatic for bart but neither is bacteriocidal. On both meds bart symptoms started coming back within a week.

Correction -- Hubby did IV Primaxin. Invanz is in the same class I think but not the same med.

I did both. Rocephin was better for me- or I should say much more tolerated. I herxed hard on rocephin with severe headaches like I have never felt before, some crying/depression and a bit of nausea. However, I passed through it and started to have some benefits (then had to stop because I moved.. unfortunate).

Invanz annihilated me. I dont know if it was herx or neurotoxicity/too much meds too fast, but I was not okay- had to be in the hospital for dehydration (horrific nonstop diarrhea, worst nausea of my life, depersonalization, nonstop crying). This is JUST my experience- I am sure other people are fine on it so don't let me scare you.

However, I couldnt get through the invanz. I did 5 days, took 2 days off in the hospital and then did 5 more days. The infusions are slower then rocephin, but that wasn;t a big deal to me. (I did invanx once per day for about 2hrs. Rocephin was once per day for 45mins. Even this is diff for everyone.)

Good luck. I feel like so much of our treatment is trial and error... for me, many many errors ...
