That's what lyme in and of itself does to us. A small percentage can't keep weight on. I had a similar thing happen. But often one needs thyroid supplemental before the blood work shows it.
An Atkins kind of low carb diet is best for most of us and yeast free.
Read about taking your basal body temperature to determine if you body temps are consistently below normal. That's usually a sign of low thyroid function. You can easily Google it and follow the instructions.

The exact same thing happened to me. My weight can also fluctuate 5-7 pounds on a daily basis.
My Dr said it was fluid retention from the infection. All of my thyroid tests were always fine.
Some days my clothes fit fine and others I have to wear sweatpants.
It is slowly coming back off now.
I know exactly how you feel though.

It's slowly coming off of me finally. No sugar & no gluten seems to be doing the trick.

from: The Biotoxin and Neurotoxin Pathway http://www.biotoxin.info/biochemistry Stage 2: Cytokine Effects The activated fat cells start to produce more leptin, which leads to weight gain that is unresponsive to diet or exercise.
Remember that the fat cells are also pumping out cytokines, this overload starts to block or damage the leptin receptors in the hypothalamus.
Elevated cytokines can produce many different symptoms including: headache, muscle ache, unstable temperature, and difficulty concentrating.
High levels of cytokines can also result in increased levels of immune related markers such as TNF, MMP-9, IL-1B, and PAI-1.
MMP-9 delivers inflammatory elements from the blood into sensitive tissues and can combine with PAI-1 to increase clot formation and arterial blockage. ______________________________________________
Possible reasons for weight gain:
Toxins Inflammation Medication side effects
Hormone dysregulation Thyroid Female hormones adrenal leptin (increased due to inflammation/leptin resistnace)
Sleep apnea Blood sugar issues Requirements of medications - adding fat for absorption - like for mepron Candida (common with abx but even without) Reduced activity levels (fatigue, pain, exercise intolerance etc.) Food allergies (can cause inflammation and edema) Body PH might be an issue (still researching this angle) Deficiency of Essential Fatty Acid Increased food intake (depression, anxiety, boredom, hormonal dysruption causing increased appetite)

prior to lyme and bart diagnosis I gained 50 pounds 'overnight'. One week I stepped on the scale and was up 5 pounds from the prior week and knew it was just not possible to gain that much from my normal diet and exercise routine. It seemed like I just blew up. Its now coming off since an Atkins like approach - only proteins, veg, salad, nuts and seeds. Sugar is my enemy.

I am/was a RAW food vegan, fer cryin' out loud. This means NO processed foods, no grains, no meat...pretty much fruits and veggies in their natural form, some seeds, no nuts(allergic).
I gained 10lbs.
I couldn't have been consuming more than 1000cal a day IF that some days as I was so nauseous and vomitting.
Then, I thought perhaps I should consume some protien, and maybe cook my veggies to gie my system a break. Another 5lbs.
I am feeling better, and exercising again, going about my day certianly not glued to the couch as I have been...in 2 weeks I have not lost a single pound.
I am trying to tret yeast and on the Yeast diet but still...nothing. I have to think SOMETHING else is going on as my diet could not be any cleaner.
I hope they figure out this mystery soon! Like, before summer

I also gained around 20 pounds in 2 months at the early part of my infection. I was constantly upset, because nothing else had changed for me and did not know I had Lyme. Then I continued to gain a few more here and there and sometimes 2 pounds would come off one day and 5 would come on the next day. I have recently been treated, but can't seem to get more than a pound off. Comes off, comes back on. Very frustrating.

It is depressing! I don't know if its the added thyroid/adrenal stuff going on for people or what but...
I would understand if people were not able to get around due to fatigue, and are not eating well...of course you will gain weight, its simply something that has to be dealt with.
But, most of us are either battling nausea/vomiting, or not eating much period...and stil gaining?
I am now exercising again, I am gluten/dairy/soy free and have been for years, AND STILL GAINING. Really? How's that for a kick in the pants? I will say, I am happy I can exercise again, the weight can take a flying leap...
