I am on week 3 of Mepron and i added arteminisin recently also. Around week 3 I got allergy type symptoms like swollen nasal cavity, swollen ears, swollen throat and trouble breathing. I'm wondering if anyone had these symptoms from a Babesia Herx or if I am having seasonal allergies or a reaction to Arteminisin.

I did not have any allergies until I got sick with Lyme, so Im wondering if this is related to the illness or if it is allergies or what. The feeling like my throat is closing shut is very unsettling.

I did have this last year before beginning treatment also

That MAY be your answer. Perhaps the combo is hitting this symptom and causing a herx of the same.

I was thinking that also but...I'm wondering if this is common with Babesia for instance or maybe I'm having some crazy allergy caused by my immune system from this disease. It tends to flare up in spring/summer. It went away for the winter...

Why would it come and go like that for so long?

Could this be an allergy/mild anaphylaxis? I think you should see your doctor about this and get it treated.

Best, CI

Something similar going on around here for me, too. I'm a little more than a week on Art/Quina/Cumanda.

I am concerned it is an allergic reaction. I just can't figure out if its seasonal or medicine related. I never had allergies before this disease. What a mess! Nothing is simple or clear with this disease.

Artemesinin should actually support the liver so it's less likely to be an allergic reaction to the herb than it is to the drug.

However artemesinin is very strong and if it irritates, that could contribute. Depends on your own system, hard to say.

I can't possibly diagnose, I am not a physician. This is only a guess and information to ask your doctor about.

Most allergic swellings would come from the adrenals and not the liver per se, but the liver would also be a help in reducing the amounts of histamines in the blood.

I would tend to think the artemesinin would only help and that it's more likely the drug than the herb.But...ask your doctor. And above all, see what works. It's all about the body and its responses, not about speculations on paper.

Never discontinue a medication without your doctor's supervision!!

Best wishes, CI

Thank you very much for your insights.

Chiquita...What would I use to help the adrenals? My thyroid is enlarged although all of my tests are negative.
