My Dr. suggested I take magnesium, increasing the dose until loose stools occurred and then decreasing by one pill. I purchased Thorne magnesium citramate and followed his orders. The problem is I feel much worse. Having what feels like a herx reaction, increase muscle pain, fatigue, weepy. I believe there is a thread on here of people who do not tolerate magnesium. Is there anyone out there who can't or who has an explanation for me. Also, does anyone know the thread?

I don't know .. that was my thinking. I've never had trouble with Mg. I've never heard of hydromellose or leucine.
I did a search here and didnt' find the link you mentioned. (doesn't mean much that I couldn't find it)

I had two huge episodes of increased neuro symptoms recently. Once after an epsom salt bath and once after taking Magnesium Glycinate. I'd also like to know if it's possible to react to Mag that way. I thought I rememebered once reading on here that one can react to Mag if they are seriously depleted but I haven't been able to find that info again.

Mag. Glycinate caused me to have significant heart palpitations. Mag. Citrate really upsets my stomach (amongst other things). Epsom salt bath soaks used to be fine, but now I get really exhausted from even a foot soak in epsom salts. I am fine with Magnesium Oxide supplements (I use Country Life Chelated Magnesium - no financial connection to this product/company). So you may need to experiment with different forms of magnesium.
Can you eat celery? If so, make 6-8 ounces of celery juice, add an ounce or two of freshly juiced carrot and/or apple juice to enhance the flavor, and drink this blend 20 minutes prior to every meal. Try to use organic vegetables as much as possible for juicing. This will give you plenty of magnesium without having to be concerned about inactive fillers/binders in the supplements.

Magnesium oxide is very poorly absorbed so probably your body is mostly excreting it and that may be why it's not bothering you.
In fact, the best reason to take magnesium oxide is for constipation.

I think celery is ok. May be mildly sensitive to it. My husband would be thrilled if I actually used the juicer I insisted on buying last year! LOL
I did take Mag oxide in the past with no issues and I do believe it's b/c it wasn't being absorbed. I also vaguely remember hearing some negative things about mag oxide being used long term but can't remember exactly what.
Maybe the amount of mag glycinate I took was part of the issue as I popped 2 of them at once thinking I was w/out my mag supplement so long that it couldn't hurt to get caught up.
The other night, after not taking it for a couple of wks. after the incident, I took one and it had a very calming effect.
Now I have to take a break again b/c I am about to do KPU testing and Heavy Metals testing so I can't take supps. until I do those.

I get severe muscle cramps if I don't take the magnesium oxide supplement. I've used this particular mag. oxide product for years without problems. Yes, partially it is used to help with constipation, but also for magnesium supplementation. Interestingly, my RBC magnesium is high... I know I don't get much (if any) magnesium in my food so I don't know where else it would be coming from... I do take it with digestive enzymes...maybe that helps it to absorb better?

Mag citrate often creates the loose stool problems....it's hard to take as much as we need. I know of one Naturapath who actually uses it along with xylitol for contipation.
Magnesium Malate or Glycinate are much better tolerated by the bowel. I can take upwards of 1200 mg Mag Malate without a problem.
The best thing is.....it is being absorbed and I can tell the difference!!!
