My LLMD said at my last visit that his hypotheses on depression is that it is caused by a virus. During my appt I was so out of it with depression, the reason I was there, that I didn't ask any questions.
Of course as soon as I get home I think of several. One question is, if it is caused by a virus, then why not treat it with an antiviral medication.
Just wondered if anyone has gotten rid of their depression by using antivirals. Or has anyone heard of this before?
I will ask about this at my next appt in July.

It's a shame to wait till July. I'm in a mental hell myself, could changing Meds help till july.. Feel better.

I have read a lot and never in my life heard any theory such as this. Did your doc ever stop and think it could be caused by an untreated co-infection? Of course, I have no clue if that's true or not either, but....
What virus does your doc think could do this? Where's his support research for the notion?

I have horrible depression. Antivirals used for ebv did nothing. At least from what i recall.
Abilify is a mood stabilizer that can be used in conjunction with ssri etc to help depression. It has been the single most effective drug i have ever used. I always used it with ssri though. I know everyone is different but this drug was a goid one. I can not wait to go back on after my baby is born. That and ritalin were lifesavers!

We upped my Risperdal and added Remeron to the mix to see if this will help.
Seek, I'm sure he thinks maybe the virus that caused it, is a co-infection from the tick; but since I was so out of it, we didn't get into the details. I will at my next visit though.
I think he sees a lot of ppl, other than lymies, that suddenly become depressed, with no real stress in their lives, so he surmizes that it must be from some type of infection.
I was just wondering if anyone's depression had improved while on anti-virals.
Maybe the virus attacks, then after it clears, you are left with screwed up brain chemistry.
