For those of you who have taken Rifampin for a long time (or any antibiotic for a long time), I am assuming the herxing stops after a couple weeks or a month, or less.
So my question is: if you aren't herxing anymore in the later months of use, what good is the drug doing you?
Right now I've been on Rifampin for a week and I'm beginning to see the beginnings of it not doing anything else to me; no more improvement or herxing (yes, this happens to me very fast on ANYTHING I take - some people notice effects for weeks or months, for me, its always just a week or so).
So.... why should I stay on the stuff if I plateau?

its hard to ans this ? without being a dr and having more knowledge on its affects.
in my opinion not all abx cause a herx. that doesnt mean they arent helping. my dr wants me to each abx 5 weeks before i give up on them. this seems to make sence to me.

Hi,
I don't know if a week is long enough to know if you plateau. My LLMD said at least 4 weeks to know for sure...
I did not herx much on my IV Invanz but I know it's working b/c I don't have as much pain and I'm able to do a lot more now than before. I herxed a lot more on orals meds but my condition continued to deteriorate. So I don't think herx should be a key indicator one way or another!
Just b/c you are not herxing doesn't mean the drug is not work.
