Week 4 into zithromax I got acne as a herx reaction. Now I am on doxy and about a week to ten days in I am getting acne again. My MD says it is a herx reaction. It's not horrible, mostly in the form of bumps. If anyone else has had this did you have any success treating it with something topical?

Well yes and no. Ive just had acne all the way through. I never really had it before, even as a teen, but since Lyme, I just have it all the time. Your skin is a huge detoxifying organ so it makes sense to get acne if your are toxic or releasing toxins, as you would i n a herx.

I get the cystic acne-like bumps when I take antiparasitics. After 1 round of Albendazole and 3 rounds of Humaworm, I don't get them anymore.

I think skin/pore parasites were dying.

I got acne a few days after my first jawbone cavitation treatment (injection of ozone).

Doctor said it was toxins being released - esp. since I have lymph drainage issues (which we've since worked on), so the toxins went out any way they could.

It's still there, though (6 weeks later). My acne scrub is doing nothing. For me, it's little red bumps on my entire forehead.

Yes, I started to get a lot of acne after I went on Diflucan a while back. I still have more than usual, but not quite as bad as it was.

I think it was related to yeast and/or yeast die off. It is true that the skin is a big detox organ..acne could be from toxins trying to escape.

I've found nothing topical that makes much of a difference (the breakouts are more from internal toxins, not from bacteria on the surface of your skin).

Since a topical probably won't resolve this, it looks like I may have to resort to something like microdermabrasion.

yes I did early on about 12 yrs ago. Never had acne problem in my life. One pimple and it was always a mother pimple if any monthly with female thing.

I remember waking up and looking in the mirror and saying is anything else weird going to happen to me? I had acne and it lasted maybe a week and then left as suddenly as it appeared.

About that time I also had a period of horrible oily pores on my face and entire head. My hair was oily. Again asking what in the heck is this?

TBTG these were short periods of weird. They were really really minor compared to other sx, but it was so confusing and frustrating and you felt so weird.

Stuff I wouldn't even mention to others except support group because I couldn't grasp what all was happening.

This seems strange to me and I have been trying to figure this out myself. Aren't pimples pores that are infected with bacteria? If we are on antibiotics shouldn't they kill the pore bacteria, too, or would the dose have to be super high in order to obtain a bactericidal concentration in the skin?

I have had this ONE HUGE pimple on my back ever since I started antibiotics. I haven't picked at it because I can't reach it, and it's been there for almost a month with no sign of healing. I have heard that Bb like to hide in the skin when they are threatened by antibiotics. Is it possible that these skin eruptions are actually Bb bacteria colonizing the skin (where they are safe from antibiotics)?

Actually, abx are very effective at reaching the skin at low dosages. For example, when someone has an acne problem they're usually prescribed 100mg of doxyxycline a day, which is a very low dose.

Pimples can be caused by bacteria, but there are many factors involved, and also they can be caused by other things as well. For example, sometimes when toxins are coming out through the skin they can form pimples.
