Just started ceftin a week and a half ago, only 1 500 twice a day and also just started biaxin with plaquenil also regular doses. So my question is has anyone noticed problems with ceftin? Is it a risk for c diff more than any other antibiotic?
Ive read on these boards that it possibly might be along with biaxin, anybody have any info? I think i just need to take more probiotics im only taking 1 or 2 theralac a day...2 boulardii a day. Just worried it seems to be harder on my gut than doxy or amoxy was, opinions welcome!

Yes....Ceftin (IMO) is very hard on the gut.
I immediately got diarrhea from it....and then very mild oral thrush. I've had to stop taking it twice to clear up these issues which is very unfortunate because Ceftin was the abx that got me over the hump to being symptom free of Lyme.
It's a great ABX for Lyme !!
There are two kinds of Ceftin-- one is not coated (very hard on gut) and the other IS coated which makes it dissolve a bit slower and is thus more gentle.
I unfortunately was taking the uncoated kind.
Why my LLMD prescribed this kind, is baffling to me. But I didn't want to yell at him. Grrrr !!
Just make sure you are taking massive amounts of a good probiotic. Hopefully you can stave off candida etc. I wasn't so lucky.
Yes....it can make you at risk for C diff. Be careful !!!

Put the chalky ones in olive oil this will give you enough time to swallow before you taste them.
I second it is hard on the GI. I thought I have C-Diff too when I started. The only thing that fixed it was a good probiotic and losts of it. Replace the Flora
I presently take Rx strength VSL#3 DS about 1-2 packs a day
thanks

I didn't think Ceftin was hard on the stomach. I think Doxycycline is much worse. Everyone is different though.

I have no problems with Cefin alone but when I took it with Biaxin my gut went really bad. I was on lots of probiotics too. I ended up going off it and starting Bicillin injections. (which by the way, worked great)

Ceftin was very easy for me to tolerate. I was taking it for the last ten months now and worked up to double the dose I started it. However I recently stopped it due to a nagging pain in my side that I have now figured out is my gallbladder. Ceftin is rocephins cousin and both have been found to cause a sludge buildup and damage to the gallbladder. Ive been taking apple cider vinegar and low fat diet and my gallbladder is returning to normal slowly. So definitely look out for that!
