Has anyone ever experienced this?:

I've had lyme symptoms for years. I had an EM rash in 2000 but had no idea what it was and didn't see a doctor. I was just diagnosed in January of this year.

My symptoms got progressively worse over the years but I was able to function. Then I really snapped last November with a suicide attempt, 2 more hospitalizations for Psychosis and a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. Mania was entirely new to me. I started developing neurological problems in October.

My LLMD asked me today about dental problems. I'd had an abscessed tooth that was removed several months before the suicide attempt. He thinks that the infection may have not been entirely removed from the bone, and it may have disseminated into my jaw and brain. He thinks that maybe the infection along with the lyme may have pushed me over the edge.

He referred me to a systemic dentist to either confirm or rule out the infection.

Has anyone heard of this or had experience with this before? And wouldn't the antibiotics have killed the infection? Or could it be so deep in the bone that the abx can't get to it? I know my dad had to have part of his jaw removed and replaced with teflon because an infection went so deep.

So I guess it's possible...What do you think?

Bone infections are often really difficult to treat. Sometimes it takes months of IV antibiotics to get rid of them.

Infection can definitely cause mental illness symptoms. Don't know anything about treatment of dental infections.
