Went to see my Dr. today and HIS SUGGESTION was to try a few rounds of Mepron/Zith !!! I am so happy. I was so worried he wouldn't but so many of you have suggested this from the beginning.
Stopping Monodox adding Zith Stay on Rifampin and Bicillin adding MEPRON ??
Mepron with Rifampin? Hmm not sure I read that this was good to do.
I also opted to go on some lexapro, give it a shot and see how it goes. Over all Dr. is pleased with my progress and feels that Babesia is a big possibility. Especially growing up out on Long Island. He is treating me clinically but tested anyway to see what happens ! I am now covering ALL those nasty infections at once ! Yikes
What do you think ??

You may want to ask your doctor about taking Rifampin with Mepron. According to drugs.com interaction checker, Rifampin significantly decreases the concentration of Mepron.
Good luck with your new protocol.

I took Rifampin w/ Mepron, it was too much on the liver I think. I felt completely toxic, and yes Mepron's indications are not to be taken with Mepron. It decreases absorption. Mepron is hard enough on the stomach as it is.

Yes Sammi but I feel my babs is most active right now. Maybe I will hit bart for a a couple more months, and wait on the mepron?

I don't know why but my doc gave me malarone with Rifampin. I know you can't take them together. I have to call the doc.
What do you take with Malarone instead of rifampin?

flutterby, if you feel Babs is the worst maybe you shouldn't wait to treat it.

mr al, Mepron is often prescribed with either Biaxin or Zithromax.
Good luck with your new protocol.

Should I ask for something else to treat bart, like plaqunil or bactrim ? Or stop Bart treatment to do the babs?

Less than 50% of atovoquone is absorbed so it is not a good idea to take it with Rifampin, reducing the amount being absorbed even more. It is so expensive, it would be a complete waste of money, not to mention the treatment is compromised.
You can take malarone with levaquin if you want to hit bart and babs. You can also take mepron with zithro and Bactrim DS which helps somewhat with bart.

fflutterby, I suggest talking with your doctor about Rifampin interfering with Mepron and see what he suggests. This way you will have the best protocol for the infections you have.
This is just a small bump in the road. You will be back on track soon.

It is possible the malarone + clarithromycin will do nicely against Babesia and at the same time hold the Bartonella in check. I am taking those 2 right now and working up slowly on the malarone. I started with a full tablet and got a nasty reaction and had to back off to half tabs of the malarone twice daily for a few days. May not happen to others, but I think the higher the load of parasites the bigger the reaction may be.

Mepron, zithro and bactrim ds will hit bart and babs in most people. I have not heard of rifampin becoming less effective after taking mepron but I have heard of levaquin not working as well after mepron. That is some LLMDs treat bart first.
I would be suspicious of a doctor giving me rifampin and mepron together. I don't know if you have insurance coverage or how good it is but you may have trouble getting long term coverage for mepron when it is so expensive.
I have been on atovaquone for nearly a year and it is expenisve! Many doctor now agree that we need twice as much mepron as previously thought, so so interferring with the absorption rate, using rifampin, seems senseless, useless and counterproductive. It could set you up for treatment failure.
Babesia can develop resistance to mepron which is why it is given with zithro. So there is that possibility that weakening it leads to resistance. Then there is the possibility your insurance blocks coverage. Then what?
