i'm not sure how much of my problem now is statin related but i know some of it is

the more i read duane gravelines book - his second to last one- the more i think there may be a relationship to lyme

many of his sx that led him to study statins are very similar to my lyme sx

i am not online much cuz of broken laptop but i really encourage all to study what he has written

its important for lymies but also for everyone...your loved ones who are on statins

i just think we all really need to be aware of this problem

he wrote 4 books...the 3rd kind of summarizes the first two. the last i think is only on kindle and i havent seen it

but the 3rd is not expensive and is really important.

i'll be back asap

ps-he does give a tx that helped him...a diet and supps...kinda complicated to write here

i cant believe noone is paying attention to this

i know we are all on our own journey with this disease-and we all have our priorities:

use abx
dont use abx
fight parasites
gluten free
candida

but i am telling you this is very scarey

reading the you tube of tom grier last night made me realize even tho i am very sick and many around me have given up on me and are just going to watch me crash...i am still here and my brain does still work in some ways

he again repeated statements of fact that i belive in and have repeated here for years

he was sicker than me so i guess i should not give up...but sometimes making decisions with so much out there is really hard

i am so glad he is still here and doing so well...i guess i will try to contact him and get his take on the statin-lyme connection. i know i can trust what he says.

this post is in medical becasue i really want to encourage all of you looking for answers to consider how statins affect your health and your lyme.

i just dont want anyone else to go down the road i am on if you dont have to.

if you interrupt the process in the beginning you do not have to get als. but there is a point where youreally cant change it. at least now they dont know how to change it.

i really think the links to tom grier should be in medical. yes-they are supportive but they are also full of medical facts.

statins are taken for high cholesterol, right?

I read about a toxocologist/pathologist who says that cholesterol does not cause heart disease or clogged arteries.

You can have extremely high cholesterol and never have any heart problems.

Mold is fibrous. 100% of the people with clogged arteries have them because of mold. Granted, that fibrous mold catches the

hi mom-thanx for responding.

yes-supposeably statins are given for high cholesterol but now they are starting to give them as "preventative"

i totally agree with what you say about cholesterol is not so bad and in fact it is very necessary for the body

my cholesterol was not high. many scans and stress tests were neg.

however i am overweight and my dad died of a heart attack so they feel i need to be on statins. i refused for 3 yrs and then the pressure from my primary made me give in.

it has been down hill for me since.

the author of the book i found-duane graveline-was an astronaut---smart, fit but they put him and others like him on statins for preventative reasons and his first sx was an amnesia episode but it has progressed to muscle problems-serious problems.

i have also had experiences with mold-and know how bad itis. iwas forced to work in a moldy school building for 5 yrs. i was first dx with asthma at 50 yrs at this time. i had to take 10 meds to breathe. other staff were also sick and we all complained but no help from admin

the worst part was-and this got my pulmonary specialist mad-was it was a school where the kids were 3-6 yrs old...so their small brains were exposed to the mold the whole time they were there...my research said mold affects kids brains...so in my mind forcing these kids to be in the environment was setting them up to fail and to lower their IQ

but none of us could change it...i was finally transferred and then forced into early retirement

first hand while helping newbies i often find them living in moldy environment and unaware and also they refuse to believe it...so in that invieronment lyme tx may not work---too much stress on body

but they are already so cog impaired and sick they just dont know who to listen to.

i have found when llmds ask their patients if they are exposed to mold they will say no and believe it but they really are affected by it...the llmd thinks they arent and noone can understand why they dont respond to tx

i know the same thing happens when a body has too many metals or parasites too...

but the statin problem is something that ppl can stop from happeneing to themselves...if they would just read gravelines book.

plz take care of u

My cardiologist said he feels it's the inflammation level, not the cholesterol that is important.

He also went on to say there hasn't been any studies to show statins reduce heart attacks or strokes!

Here's a great video clip from Mercola that explains the "Cholesterol Myth" in less than 10 minutes:

My mother tried statins 2x and had severe reactions both times. My hubby also had a bad reaction to a statin. Both have chosen not to take them. My mom takes prescription fish oil for her high cholesterol. I definetly think statins are over prescribed and dangerous.

The doctor tried giving my mother a statin about 10 yrs ago. She had low cholesterol!!! She began having side effects and I told the doctor ... NO .. not for my mother! ( I was her caregiver. )

He said, "Well, if it were MY mother I would have her on them." I said, "Well, this is MY mother and I don't want her on them."

That was back when they WERE handing out statins to "protect" against heart attacks. I had heard too many horror stories by that time about them.

<<<<< lpkayak >>>>>,

Thank you for bringing the 'Statin topic backup!!!!

I believe this class of drugs is truly dangerous. And I believe it is not safe for persons w/ Lyme and co-infections.

Course I'm not a doctor or such like...but I know the pain and issues it caused me...

Have to go for a bit... BBL but thanks again,

Cholesterol is very important! Some of our hormones are made from cholesterol.... so if we are lowering our cholesterol we'll end up with hormonal problems in addition to the adverse effects of the statins.

NO Thanks!

Ten years ago, statins put my otherwise healthy father in a wheel chair.
All because his total chol number was 3 points above the "suggested" number (a number dictated by Big Pharma, by the way). He came from a generation where you never question your doctor.

I refuse to take statins. My doctor isn't happy about that, even though my trigs are great and my LDL particles are big and fluffy. If you are not eating grains and sugar, chances are your LDL particles are fluffy. Carbs make dense, sticky particles.

Big Pharma uses scare tactics out of greed.

Cholesterol is not scary. It is a natural substance in your body that builds healthy cell membranes. (BTW, HDL and LDL are not cholesterol, they are the transport substances that move cholesterol to and from the liver).

Studies are being done on the connection between low cholesterol and cancer.

Protein Power LifePlan book has an excellent explanation of cholesterol.

Check "The International Network of Cholesterol Skeptics" for a list of books and articles.

Hi there <<<<< lpkayak, and each replier on your Statin Dangers Topic >>>>>,

I see there were/are some books out on this problem, Duane Graveline ..., other authors too?

Can we get a hold of these books,TxC' and I are on a tight budget, but if we can get author names etc. maybe we can find them at a used book store etc.?!

I still have pain and *digestion issues [*I am presuming they may be from the statins as well?!]

I'll be back in a bit...Silverwolfi

Okay, back again... want to keep this topic going so we can discuss and learn.

Will check in tomorrow...

Again w/ thanks for y'all bringing it back up,and for the link too. I am curious now if my stomach/gut pain is all part of this.

Hey there ,

Oh I see, the link for THINC has some books too, way cool !!!

I'm curious to know, just what kind of damage the darn Stains may have done us, besides the serious joint pain, issues,

...and other problems that can occur MG? ALS? like issues etc.

How many of the problems we face are from medicines that are more like poison than true medicine? It is a frightening tho't.

<<<<< lpkayak >>>>>,

Okay, will do some checking, finances are way tight, like so many now-a-says.

Hope the wedding goes well, and you are feeling good enough to enjoy it! If you are able take a break after wedding.

This is a hard thing about Lyme and Co's and dangerous meds' and our reaction to them. It saps the energy so much.

Will check back on this thread later...TxC' was on the Statins, far too long,as far as I'm concerned,he is having serious hand issues.

He loves to play guitar and such, but he cannot now, sometimes just typing is hard for him.

He is doing fish oils right now,to see if there is really much difference. Maybe it can help ease the pain! It has to be healthier than the Statins!

<<<<< Ruby >>>>> Thanks again for the info'link!

I'll check back from time to time...Lyme Family ,please treat yourselves gently when possible!!

We need the gentleness to counterbalance all the harshness we go thru!

I would look for books by Uffe Ravnskov. "The Cholesterol Myths"

"The Great Cholesterol Con" by Anthony Colpo

and of course

"Lipitor - Thief of Memory" by Duane Graveline

other good books with cholesterol info but also other info are "Good Calories, Bad Calories" and the easier to read version "Why we get fat and what to do about it" by Gary Taubes.

Gary Taubes also has an article you can find online "What if it was all a big fat lie".

[hi] Don't forget to check your local library!!

<<<<< RubyJ >>>>> Thanks for the info' on books !

TxC' and I were discussing this this a.m., everyone is an individual,so why should all the cholesterol counts need to be the same numbers in general?!

I talked to a *Health care worker, when I was still able to go to free-clinic [ I now am well past the year deadline for aid,so looking for a Dr. here. ].

The *worker helps Diabetics, and talked about how the disease is individualistic just as each person is. And so many Doctors may miss that, we are not just file #'x'.

What if File #Y's numbers for blood sugars or cholesterol are to low or too high for them, but just right on the charts?

Hope I am making sense [ I know what I want to say,not sure it always translates.].
