Well I have my first cold in quite a while now and am quite happy as I think the immune system is starting to kick in again. At least that is my hope

Just got my first cold in a couple of years - really sore throat, cough, congestion. Saw my LLMD last Fri. and he said that is a good sign that the immune system is starting to "wake up" and work normally again. [Smile] I've never been so happy to have a cold! I am feeling so much better lately too, so I guess this is all points to progress.

So does that mean we could get the flu without having flu like symptoms? Or we are just immune from any airborne illness?

They say a cold is an immune response. It means our immune systems are kicking in. I have had a cold for two weeks.

I am confused in how having a cold a good sign. Not that I have had a cold for a long time and I'm not sad about that at all!

But for example, I think one has a weak immune system if they catch every virus in sight. Before I got diagnosed with lyme, I would get sick for weeks at a time - starting with a sore throat, sniffles, coughing, then bronchitis and/or sinusitis. This would persist for at least 3 weeks. When I finally get better, within a month or two, I get sick again. I was always sick like clockwork for a good 10 years.

I knew so many people at school/work who would not get sick from me coughing all the time. So whose immune system is stronger - their's or mine? I guess I had a good immune response - in that my body was trying to fight off the virus but it took SOOO long to get better. I know people who catch a cold and are starting to feel better within a week.

I agree though that when you have active lyme your body is probably consumed with fighting the infection that it doesn't respond to other viruses. I am just not sure how that actually physically happens like that.

I know I am so confused too!

I use to get sick all the time before I knew I had lyme and company.
I would catch everything in sight. Winter would be the worst.

Ugh I have so much head pressure and post nasal drip. Just made some green tea with a lil honey. Its hard to breath. Not like air hunger...just stuff,,,maybe I will breathe in some steam...

Just thought I would chime in. My dd developed a quick cold on Thursday, and she is already over it. I thought nothing of her sneezing on me (she's 4), etc., because I have been unable to catch a cold for the past 16 months.

Well, surprise! Today I have been coming down with a cold! And I, like many, am caught between feeling sad AND elated! I felt like I was having a Lyme flare mid-week, and now I am wondering if it was just a cold coming on.

Perhaps light at the end of the tunnel?

last febuary i had a horrible stomach ache, dry heaving, fever, and was so sick i could barely walk. i thought i was having some sort of coinfection flair up or lyme problem.

turns out my mom and friend both had the stomach flu that very same time as it was going around the area. i was over it in a week. its hard to remember that we can still get sick with other things always thinking its lyme and co.

I caught a head cold yesterday. I had a 101 degree fever last night and a lot of sinus pressure and drainage. Today is day two and my fever is gone and my temp. is 98.6. It usually runs about 97 since getting lyme. I hope this cold is a "good" thing. I still feel awful though.
