I can't list what to look for, but from what I know Natren is one of the best, and you can find it on line. I use it and it seems to help. It's costly, but worth it.

I look for a lot of different strains 8+ and a high amount of bacteria (50 billion and up).

Metagenics and Florastor are good. For a less expensive option, I like Ultimate Flora which is often BOGO at drug stores.

VSL#3 and Theralac are excellent mixed probiotics. I take two of each of these daily.

I also take S.boulardii which helps prevent c.diff. Florastor is a good brand.

www.theralac.com

VSL#3

Ultimate Flora

Get one that has multiple strains .. if it just says acidophilus, it's probably ONE strain.

Take at LEAST 100 billion CFU's per day.

Best by far for me Klaire Labs--could not tolerate Ceftin at all even doubling the doses of Metagenics and adding Culturelle. Average dose of Klaire's product and I had no problem with the Ceftin. You have to find what works for you

Nonna05, the Ultimate Flora bottle actually says you can take it with a light meal, but, I take it last thing just before bed - away from food and meds.

Take 2 hrs away from any antibiotics.

I take mine on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

You really need to take probiotics and not forgeting them .After 3 years of antibiotics I ended up in clostridium dificile. In the begining I have had no problem with oral but over time the stomak and the gut will quit on you.It will be better to use PREVACID for saving your stomak lining. That was a recomendation from one of the llmd.
I started having sever refluxed and trouble with my gut.Only is I take prevacid and high dosages of probiotics I can handle abx again.

A little help for a newbee...... Here is what I'm taking,
Probiotic Acidophilus

is this ok and will it keep me safe from problems?

Had a major flare up yesterday (maybe the foods I've been eating).

Started using a different Probiotic wednesday & thursday because I was out of the above liq, got up Friday and tounge was full of white globs and had the runs all day. I started up the liq probiotics after I got more, taking it thru the day and the runs went away last night. Also I didn't sleep to well last night (4 1/2 hours) but when I got up first thing I did was looked into my mouth and there was very little white on my tounge and stool was kind of reg..

So what can I eat without killing myself?
Any food list would be great...

Tiramisu.. I found out that PB8 was NOT adequate. Took it for years... two pills a day. WAY undertreated myself!!!! Now I'm paying for that mistake.

Cracker Jack.. The product does NOT say it's SUGAR FREE. Bet it has some sugar, since it is flavored.

Seems to help you though (?)... Also, it only has 3 strains of bacteria. You need a minimum of 100 billion CFU's per day.

So if you continue that one .. take 5 doses of it.

I think PB8 only contains 7 or 10 (?) billion CFU's per capsule.

Yes, the PB 8 is about 7 billion per capsule, and the serving size is 2 caps.
I take 2-3 caps each time, and about 4 yogurts per week. Also just bought Solaray Multidophilus Plus DDS-1. Will mix that in too.

Thanks Lymetoo.

The plain no sugar yogurt is good, but just eat in moderation.
If you would like to see and anti-yeast diet, check out Doug Kaufmanm on line. He has a great book called Eating Your Way to Good Health, complete with recipes.
Green vegetables, green apples and berries are ok, lean meats, brown rice. No simple carbs. I've been on the diet 4 months and it's helped with the probiotic! Just starting to introduce a couple things so that I can feel like I'm "living" again!

I can't do dairy so I thought I would chime in here for anyone else in that boat.

CustomProbiotics.com in California -- Harry is the owner. He is wonderful. I know I could not withstand Dr. H's regimen without Custom Probiotics- I do an 11 strain powder.

Like the others, this is not cheap but I would say VERY worth it...

I like kefir too.
Question can I wash down my meds (mepron) with kefir? Right now I use water, sometimes with some lemon or lime in it.
