What are everyone's docs saying about passing lyme onto your partners?
I am concerned about passing it onto my spouse (while I'm getting treated), and then him giving lyme back to me (especially if I've already given it to him--I went undiagnosed for a few years).
Do condoms actually work to prevent spirochetes from getting through?

Absolutely. My husband was healthy before we met. He is now Igenex IgG and IgM positive. I treat it with all of the precautions of an STD, since Lyme spirochetes are similar to Syphillis spirochetes.

my understanding of the science is still theres more of a chance men can give it to woman than woman to men
if either is on abx it will not be transmitted
but my info is old
if someone is telling you "yes" i think you shold ask for the study or whay they say that
remember---spouses having sex are in the same environment at least some of the time. nymphs are very tiny---usually there is no rash. ticks are found in concrete cities...there is a good chance is one is infected the other can be too form a tick or mosquito or flea...what ever

I can say I've never heard a LLMD say it is impossible. The ones I've heard from won't totally rule it out. Some think yes, for sure.
I think yes it is possible to be sexually transmitted, and for years have advised people to treat it like you would any sexually transmitted disease...
UNTIL there is proof positive it absolutely can't happen.
Keep in mind, nearly 100% of the IDSA and other IDiots theories and statements about Lyme have been proven wrong over the years.
They originally said it was a virus and antibiotics would not work on it. 2 wrongs.
They said oh yeah, maybe antibiotics would work, but you only need 10 days-3 weeks to be cured. Give me a break!
They said the tests were accurate. What a joke that was and still is!
They said their treatment protocols would cure Lyme. Maybe when pigs fly!
They said one dose of doxy would cure Lyme if you take it within X number of hours, etc of a tick bite. A 7 year old knows better.
They said their vaccine was safe and effective. That was so far from being true it is unbelievable.
So when they say, without ANY proof what-so-ever, that it can't be sexually transmitted, I say bah humbug! And lots of other not nice things about them.

Not that I get the chance........But it would now be a concern .. Just because everytime you think you understand what's going on with all this Buggy-Bug stuff , something else crops up ..

I would think it will always be a concern, since we really don't know everything about the bacteria transmission.

I heard that one of the reasons it is different passing it sexually than getting it from the tick is... the tick secretes a chemical that shuts down your immune system.
So maybe it can be passed, but it doesn't knock you on your #$^&$# as when your bit by a tick.

My Doc says in his experience LD can be transmitted sexually. He also says the resulting infection is not as damaging or difficult to treat as an infection acquired from a tick bite.

Most of the time we are not just talking about lyme but coinfections of mycoplasma and chlamydia, which can be passed through respiratory secretions.
My husband was sick first then 2 years later I started showing symptoms. He go sick the first month after tick exposure.
I think along the same lines as bv's dr. I think if you are bitten you show symptoms pretty quick. Maybe a higher spirochete load.
If you get if from your spouse it takes a longer time to show itself. Maybe a lower spirochete load.
Just pondering.

A LLMD that I saw a few years ago that sees a lot of lyme patients told me about 1 out of every 100 patients he sees has a spouse with it also.
I never gave it to my wife but you do hear stories of both spouses having it. Some though will be cases where husband comes home from hunting and the wife gets bitten in bed by a tick he brought home.
I think some peoples immune system/DNA can fight it off better then other. Lots of variables.
