Hi <<<<< Lyme Family >>>>>,
TxCoord and I need suggestions for inexpensive things we can do,to keep safe.
We found mold in our back room and restroom, it will be a good while yet before we can move [finances].
Suggestions for inexpensive supplements etc. to help us detox, and ideas to safely clean what we can, would be helpful.
Some things we can throw out,but many things like our clothing [only closet in our home is in back room] are in the room where the mold has been discovered.
We cannot afford tho replace all our clothing right now. Would vinegar/and-or/lemon help the clothing?
Will do some searching for ideas here and on google too. Any thot's/ideas/links would be so appreciated.
We are so relieved that TxCoords health has begun to show improvement, and neither of us wants to get worse due to mold exposure.
We have tried to be very careful, but this last leak here got mold into the drywall.
Have to go off for a bit,but I'll be researching, and checking back in as we can!

Hi <<<<< Stork,and our Lyme Family >>>>>,
Stork, sent you a PM with what info' I found so far.
Now I am on to checking supplements and so on...
I know in general that lemon and lime water can be a good detox for us,to drink.
And I am seeing that Oregano which I use sometimes for sinus problems[I take capsules], may help against mold.
Also read that some folks use stinging nettle supplement to help detox, when around molds allergins. Interesting,I've seen it used in shampoos as a dandruff fighter aid!
I'm on the prowl here researching!

Didn't know about nettles for mold detox - thanks for sharing! No wonder I feel so much better on nettles...it seems to help with everything!
I too have had mold issues in the home, but not anything too severe (no drywall affected, just some trim, which was removed, and the floor, which was cleaned thoroughly).
I have found thyme to be helpful also for dealing with the effects of mold. I take a product called FenuThyme, which is a combination of fenugreek and thyme.
The Fenugreek helps to keep mucus secretions thinned, and it helps me with sinus congestion. And also fenugreek has mucilagenous properties, so it is good for the gut.
For the clothes, I would think washing in peroxide and regular laundry soap would help, and if you can use warm or hot water and a hot dryer, that would also be good (items that may be harmed by the heat would need something different, but I'm not sure how to deal with that).
Oh, you might also consider getting a hepa filter air filter to run in the area where the mold is, to keep mold counts down in the air.
Also, you can diffuse essential oils in the affected area - oregano, thyme, lemongrass, tea tree oil are all good against mold. Put drops of the oils on a light bulb in the room (incandescent; don't think it would work with the CFL's).
We were fortunate in that our mold issue did not affect clothing or carpeting.
Take care,

<<<<< Razzle >>>>>,
Hi there,thanks for the reply!!!
I'll look for the spices and oils, as soon as our next check is in [ finances... sigh ]!
Interested in the FenuThyme,as well as the others, and adding Cilantro in to it was mentioned in one of the older threads here on LN for Mold detoxing.
They also have mentioned Zeolite and other binders. We'll see what we can afford and go with it,as we carefully clean!
For laundry, We usually use cold water as many of our clothes don't stand up well to hot water,so will see what we can accomplish!
May check w/ a friend, they used to have a special filter,I think it uses the Hepa too?
Thanks again so much for the info'!!!

I'm planning on moving out of my house and into my parents soon and I can't afford to buy all new clothes.
Will vinegar work with washing clothes? Any ideas what else I could wash clothes in and what I could wipe some wooden furniture down with?

For wooden furniture (finished), try murphy's oil soap...
I would think vinegar would work on the clothes...

Hey <<<<< gigimac >>>>>,
I often use vinegar [white distilled],in our washer,it is a good alternative to chemically gummy fabric softeners. It might work?,
I also use peroxide to fight blood stains etc.,and I would think it would be good against mold.
So far it hasn't caused problems w/ my fabrics[other than one cranberry colored dishcloth].
I wonder, someone mentioned that Orange Guard type cleaner on another thread...perhaps it would clean wood gently? I'd patch test it.
We are looking for safe inexpensive cleaners, and detox too... finances are really tight,so I hear you!
I remember something about Thieves oil blends for helping clear the air too...will search on that. Tho' I don't think they do a cleaner per-see tho'?
BBL off to Search
<<<<< Razzle >>>>>, Murphys Oil is a great idea Thanks!!!

Hi <<<<< sparkle7 >>>>>,
Thanks for the link, that helps explain things we can use on most clothing.
Including the borax, vinegar, baking soda and so on!
After fire or smoke/water damage,I heard that lemon and borax was good too!
Hmm, now evidently Thieves oil,is basically : a carrier oil such as olive oil w/ essential oils of : Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary.
Should help clear the air a bit ...good to know... off for a bit BBL...

Another blend good for mold is Purification. My Mom uses Purification in a diffuser to clear mold odor and it works very well.
Also, yes there is a Thieves household cleaner...it is useful on most surfaces and can also be added to a load of laundry (1 capful at most).

Some people use ozone to get rid of mold but I don't know how to do it. I never had to remediate a house.

Hi there <<<<< Razzle, sparkle7 >>>>>,
Thanks for the info' from both of y'all !!!
We had been hoping to keep the mold and mess out of the trailer-house,even w/ all the leaks we've had to have fixed.
I think the poor drywall has had all the moisture it can cope with and now has mold,
sad because our former park manger worked so hard to fix the trailer home before we came..
I am glad to know there are some relatively inexpensive things we can do toward fixing this problem!!!
The last leak in January was our 13th since fall of 2010...such a shame. I don't want someone else to inherit this mess...so we'll do what we are able on a tight budget to fix.

I just met a guy who is a consultant for buildings that have problems, mold, smoke damage etc. He told me to get the honeywell HEPA air filter with UV, UV is the only thing that will kill mold spores. I am done with remediation on my house and I have the HEPA running 24/7, it's like night and day in here now.

We had a different brand hepa/UV filter (considered one of the best for the price range at the time we bought it) and it did absolutely nothing to kill the smell of mold in the house...
The only thing that got rid of the mold smell for us was getting rid of the mold.

Hi <<<<< RC1 and Razzle, thanks for the HEPA ideas.
I am hoping the drywall is not to horribly saturated with moisture/mold, have to replace it if it is [after finding/fixing the cause].
