I spoke with my llmd a few days ago and we both thought it best at this point to take a med break. I have been treating since Aug. 2011. I was on Rifampin, zith, and ceftin.
The rifampin was tearing my stomach up! I just couldn't hardly tell what were actual symptoms anymore and what were side effects......and I just need a break to see where I'm at.

I'm headed back to school in Aug. and really need to be able to concentrate on my studies. I hope this is going to be possible.

My llmd said I could be off meds at least a month and if things start heading south we would still have time to get me back on meds and straightened out before school started up.

Now, to just wait and see what happens I suppose.

I really hope I'm not screwing up here but I just don't know what is what with this anymore.

Anyone else taken a med break before? if so, how did it go for you? What were your reasons?

Am I crazy for going back to school. I really want to finish this but it is an intense program. I think I can do it as long as brain fog etc doesn't return to haunt me [dizzy]

I am also trying to stay in college, which is not an easy feat! I have taken med breaks before, and I am actually doing one right now. For me personally, I need breaks to reinvigorate my fight. I lose momentum when I do long treatment stretches.

Also, when I start giving symptoms back, it makes me want to get back on meds, and I have a fresh look at things.

Sometimes you have to care for your sanity!

You can do herbs in the interim. I couldn't tolerate abx after being on them a year. My doc put me on Byron White herbs. They are so much more gentle, and the herxes are mild.

I have taken med breaks as part of pulse treatment and as part of my own need to take a break and clear out toxins..

What I find is that the co-infections re-surface rather quickly within a few days. Lyme symptoms not for months.

I had to take a two week break recently and definately felt things heading south. Re-started on new protocol but I feel more detoxed and ready to start again...

lmedler, a break is probably a good thing for you. I felt so much better when going off rifampin and doxy. I am now on a cocktail that seems to be much easier on my system.

Just make sure you see your LLMD and ask about nutritional supplements and herbs to take while not on ABX. Good luck to you with your studies! [Wink]

Use your break time to detox. Support your liver and up your yeast herbs, drink prenty of water....

If you have to go back on abx, your body will be stronger
