I'm trying to do some rule in/rule out here.

The crimson crescents are just what they sound like. The mucosa at the very back of the mouth, in front of the tonsils, turns scarlet red along the edges. It looks like two red crescent moons facing each other.

They hurt. Like when you have strep throat.

This is a common finding in the CFS community.

Patients seem to think it's viral.

I have experienced this twice. The first time, I was on Humaworm. I honestly feel like I killed off so many parasites in that first round that I released all the "bad guys" they were harboring.

I got bronchitis, yeast, and the crimson crescents. Took a while to clean it all up.

This time, I was on Bicillin and 4 orals. I had just added Bactrim.

I have the crimson crescents again. Plus, a huge ulcer on the underside of my tongue, and a peeled area on the side of my tongue with a couple white spots.

My mouth and throat feel raw. No other symptoms.

Did I kill off too many bacteria and parasites and the viruses are having a field day?

Is this a reaction to Bactrim? I have read that it can be an allergic reaction. I have also read that it can be a result of folate or B12 deficiency.

I've been on Zith and Malarone, which both deplete folate. Bactrim is a strong antifolate.

Another possibility is atrophic candidiasis. Mucus membranes excoriate due to the mycotoxins. I don't have white patches in my mouth. I do have a thick tongue coat.

I'm covering all my bases. I stopped meds. I'm taking only Diflucan. I added herbs and Monolaurin for viruses. (I should get some Lysine.) And I added Folapro and liquid B12.

I don't think my LLND can do anything more than I'm doing, other than testing viral titers.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm especially interested in viral reactions and Bactrim reactions. And speculation on these crimson crescents.

Thanks in advance. This is miserable. I told my husband I need a new head.

I've had crimson crescents for many years, but no sore throat.
I've had chronic fatigue for at least 25 years.

I don't know what's causing your oral ulcers, but I know of two or three ways to treat.

Silver Nitrate applicators.
Wet the tip of the applicator and touch it to the sore.
It cauterizes the sore and turns the flesh gray...the pain is gone instantly.
The sore heals in a couple days, no pain.

These are available at Amazon, the reviews are informative.

The second way is to treat with LED light therapy.
Use the 880 wavelength, apply the light paddle to the face over the area of the sores.
Sores and wounds heal three to five times more quickly.

You can also hold the light paddle to the throat at the angle of the jaw, to treat the tonsils and pharynx.
I did this whenever I got a sore throat, with good results.

I used to get sore throats when I was coming down with a cold, but now I treat colds with elderberry extract.
They clear up very quickly.

This will repair the bacteria in your mouth:

NOW brand, OralBiotic, with BLIS K12 Streptococcus salivarius.

http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-Oralbiotic-Blis-60-Count/dp/B003P7YVTQ/
(Good reviews.)

Carol - Thank you for the suggestions. I will definitely try them.

Great picture, too.

Boxermom - Wow... I don't envy you. Sorry to hear this.

Looks like you already have some excellent advice.

If you want to eat folic acid rich foods though (couldn't hurt) try eggs (yolks specifically) and of course, spinach, which is in season now.

Good luck.

I had this a few days ago. I couldn't swallow anything, even water without severe pain. It felt like a severe strep throat. I thought it was an allergy to one of the meds I was taking but benadryl wasn't working.

I started to drink liquid Nystatin because I was desperate and it worked in a few uses luckily. I think mine was definitely a Candida issue.

I have dealt with this over the years myself. I have had chronically inflammed tonsils for months at a time. I also get ulcers on my tongue and since getting sick have developed "geographic tongue" where i get these weird patches on my tongue that make eating painful. I also get infammed taste buds and I have these weird bumps on the back of my tongue that my dr says are related to chronic reflux .

I hope you feel better soon, boxermom. Jess

Boxer, do a search and you will find many threads on the crimson crescent. Fairly common with those of us wiped out by it all.

If you experienced this while on Humaworm, and have a history of parasites, then IMO, it sounds like it's parasitic in nature.

If you are not on any antiparasitics, then I would get back on something ASAP. Parasites usually are seen in a bilateral appearance.

There are hundreds of thousands of eggs and larva left by parasites, and if not eradicated the cycle will start all over again. It can take several years to get rid of parasites.

If I were you, I would treat the thick coating on the tongue as candida. Follow Burrascano's instructions.

My doc had me brush with peroxide and water (50/50 solution) as Burrascano describes and then rinse and open a probiotic on the tongue. Let the contents sit on the tongue until totally dissolved. Swish it around the mouth also.

You may have a number of things going on, but at least treat the candida once per day and see what resolves.

If you treat parasites, do not forget to test and treat for toxic metals. You would be the only person on this planet who does not harbor any.
Do a Doctors Data hairtest and urin test. A good naturopath understands this. Parasites hold the metals in their coats. When you kill them, they surface big time as do the fungi and later the viruses. Babuschka Principle. I posted about it a long time ago.

Do not ignore heavy toxic metals - mainly mercury, lead, cadmium, etc.

The body tries to get rid of things - tonsil area is a major toilet!

Best to you.

I have these.

No sore throat, no sores in mouth. No white tongue.

Just profound fatigue, to the point of exhaustion.

I take lauricidin for my TBD viruses. Doc reccomended Moducare (an adaptogen for immune system).

Doc mentioned virus reactivation.

I don't really know which virus it would be-god knows what I didn't have before, the tick(s) made sure I got. Haha.

Any suggestions? I have a zapper-I want to program it for a virus.

Juliette, these threads are from years ago. Notice the dates. But I found a little more info on crimson crescents on these 2 threads.

Hope this helps explain.
