I am on morphine for pain right now, but I do not want to become dependent on it. I do not know how long I will have this pain, and I want to seek out other ways of managing pain. My concern is that other ways will not offer the level of relief I get from the morphine. I was wondering if I am right? I am only taking 5 mg a day. Someone mentioned that an anti inflammatory diet and acupuncture might offer relief. On a scale of 1- 10 my pain can be anywhere from a 5 to a 8, but it usually is a steady 7. With the morphine it is a steady 3, much more manageable for me. Do you think that other ways of managing pain will offer as much relief?

My pain is in my joints, even the small ones of my wrists and fingers. I also have muscle pain and my skin sometimes feels sensitive to the touch, like an achy flulike feeling. I also have headaches and migraines.

katrinab, are you on treatment? I certainly hope that you are on the best treatment that you can find and tolerate. Obviously, even if you are, you need relief in the meantime.

There are so many options for pain, both natural and meds. The natural things will help augment the meds, but probably won't be enough by themselves. Other people will be along to go over more (have to go to bed!).

I have had a specific sharp, burning pain from my mid-spine, into my ribs and behind my shoulder blade for over a year...it hurts badly in the morning...and throughout the day if I move in certain positions or bump it...I did the regular Doctor routine for it (pcp, spine specialist, MRI's...then chiropractor) My LLMD told me it might be nerve pain...

I'm not sure what to try...(spine specialist says steroids, and I say no way)..I feel better in all other aspects but this pain is really bothering me.

Yes am in treatment. I have been for over a year. I do take chlorella and charcoal occasionally to get rid of toxins, but my llmd said that toxins are excreted when we go to the bathroom anyways so he personally thinks the binders a waste of money unless you have heavy metals.

Katrina, you said, "Do you think that other ways of managing pain will offer as much relief?"

If you have inflammation throughout your body, you'll "feel" all of your joints, like you describe.
I say this because when I made a point of doing things to reduce inflammation, I managed to reduce the pain dramatically.

The SSRI's, antidepressants, will reduce the sensation of pain.
However, they can cause sexual side effects, like you described with the morphine.

One of the best things I've found to reduce inflammation, pain, and headaches is systemic enzymes.
There are many blends of enzymes available, and you may have to try several, increasing the dose until you notice a difference.
I'm taking Wobenzym.

Magnesium deficit will cause many symptoms, including increased pain and headaches.
Have you been taking supplemental magnesium?
You might need to take it away from antibiotics.

Pharmaceutical quality fish oil with a high ratio of EPA is expensive, but it has reduced painful joints and headaches for me.
Aim for 2000 mg of EPA daily.

OmegaBrite is excellent, but costs about $60 per month.

Minami Nutrition MorEPA has the same EPA profile, and costs about $30 per month.
You can read reviews for MorEPA at iHerb.com and at Amazon.com.
Amazon has the better price.

Each of these suggestions will reduce the pain somewhat, as they help the cells function better.
When your cells are getting enough oxygen and blood sugar to work well, you have less pain.

Pain behind the shoulder blade can be from referred liver toxicity.

I tried fish oils & other natural supplements for inflammation. Nothing really helped me.

If you do have the Fry bug FL1953 (I think) (I forget the scientific name it's called now) magnesium & fats are supposed to make it worse.

The only time I actually felt better was after treating parasites for over 2 years. The reason it probably took so long was that I didn't believe that the parasites could cause all the symptoms I was having. I think they do - though... I took herbs & stopped for a while inbetween treatments. When I didn't stop taking the herbs - with Parastroy - I actually started feeling better. It took about 9 months.

I'm not saying everyone has parasites but I think they can be a reason why so many of us are so ill & not getting better.
