I have been taking 100 mg doxy a day for almost a year. I know that is not recommended but it is all I can tolerate. I have taken flagyl a couple times and can tolerate half a pill to one pill at a time but not with the doxy. If I take both it is just too much.

Since I have been on doxy soo long and possibly created cysts, I am wondering if it would be a good idea to just take flagyl for a while? Can flagyl be taken alone?

anyone??

If I take the flagyl by itself, will it help or am I releasing bb from its cyst without killing it?

I believe you will be killing it. Flagyl is also used in treating cystic acne, and I've heard it's effective. Please get more opinions first though.
I've had Flagyl sitting here for two months and I have yet to take it, so I don't speak from experience.

Yes, you can take Flagyl alone if that's all you can handle.

I've been on a combination of Flagyl and Andrographis for over 1 year, and am STILL not up to the max dose on either one...I herx too hard if I increase the dose of either the Andrographis or the Flagyl.

But if I decrease the Flagyl or the Andrographis, symptoms that have disappeared or improved significantly will return. So I know I have more bugs to deal with...

But anyway, yes, flagyl by itself is ok from everything I've read.

Stomach, leg pains, some fatigue. I still have these, but not as severely as if I was off the Flagyl. I tried to go off the Flagyl and I didn't last more than 2 days off...the symptoms returned pretty quickly.

According to my lyme doctor, flagyl can be taken alone. He says it kills lyme in the cyst form.

When he was treating me years ago, I was on just flagyl for one month, plus another med to kill bartonella. That one month of flagyl alone is how he finished off my lyme treatment.

It worked for me.

There isn't any in vivo evidence that cysts revert back into spirochetes let alone any in vivo evidence that Flagyl works as a cystbuster.

Flagyl(Metronidazole) has some harsh side effects including being a possible cancer causing agent.

My current LLMD says that one could get much sicker on Flagyl alone, and I did with a previous LLMD; in fact, I had a relapse.

The Flagyl breaks open the cysts and releases active spirochetes in the blood stream. You need to have a spirochete killer (another antibiotic) to kill them off.

My doc says once you can tolerate the full dose of Flagyl for awhile, and don't have any more symptoms, he'll do a blood test. He says you can get every cyst with Flagyl.

He happens to treat with flagyl at the end of the protocol. He says it's just too hard to do it at the beginning. From my experience, he's right.

CS, I don't know about that. The studies I've seen show that Flagyl has action against the 'chetes as well.

Who the heck is going to wait for in vivo evidence when they have lyme disease?

There is also the option to pulse Flagyl.

Confusing topic, I need to ask my doctor what her opinion is but I have wondered whether flagyl just opens cysts or kills them. It seems like you wouldn't herx if it didn't actually kill them. I definitely have a herx reaction from it.

Cherylsue,I would like to see the evidence your doctor has to make a statement like that.
