Hi,

I was wondering which natural antibiotics cross the blood brain barrier?

do any of these?

Olive leaf extract

Teasel Root extract

sarsaparila officinalis

grapefruit seed extract

Colloidal silver

mangosteen

lauricilin (component of lauric acid)

Thank You

Personally I do not think any of the ones on your list cross the blood brain barrier.

I would suggest consulting the 2nd edition of the Herbal Antibiotics book by Buhner. Pretty sure he has a protocol for meningitis which should answer the question.

Sorry but I have misplaced my copy right now. Think it is one of the best books I have bought in a long time -- just wish I had bought it sooner.

From hubby's experiences I think cryptolepis and sida acuta tincture both cross the blood brain barrier. Also Japanese knotweed.

my llmd had me on huge doses of amox and zith and did specific blood testing-timeing critical -to determine dose needed to cross bbb

it wasnt the drug-it was the dose and the patients weight made a differenc

For what it is worth, I saw one of the top neurologists in the country and he said there are not any oral abx which cross the blood brain barrier. He said this can only be accomplished intravenously. He said that is why I dd not improve with Lyme encephalopathy until I had iv rocephin

bugg...it was one of the top llmds that told me about the abx combo at high doses passing bbb

it was very tricky to get the exact dosage and many ppl probably couldnt tolerate it cuz of gi sx

i would take my llmd's word over any neurol-neurols know idsa stuff and sure abx at normally prescribed doses wont pass---but for me it got me way better. better enough to work to retirement and raise my family-so it does work

there are words...like trough...and yo have to take the meds and then draw the blood an exact time later...

i have met many llmds who didnt know this-but the one who treated me is a biggie and has been in it from the beginning.

I and a number of my friends got rid of this disease with oral medications only. We all had brain symptoms. One friend had had lyme her entire life (50 years) from the womb and had been in brain fog for over a year with no letup. She also had no memory. And, I had 2 UBOs (unidentified bright objects) show up on my brain scan.

So, how did we get rid of our brain problems with just orals if this neurologist is right?

I agree with kayak that the dose determines whether or not the med gets into the brain.

I had lyme for at least 10 years before being diagnosed. I believed I had gotten Alzheimer's disease and told a doctor so. So, I know my brain was affected, the brain scan also showed it, and now my brain is great.

I got rid of these diseases about 8 years ago and I have my normal, sharp brain back again just like I had my entire life before this horrendous disease.

In my experience, the docs who treat lyme and only lyme for many, many years know way more about this disease than any neurologist. Everything the neurologists think they know about lyme is WRONG!

Actually if you read the pharmacy info on some oral antibiotics -- not sure if it is true of all of them -- it will say that in the presence of meningitis or encephalitis that a higher percentage of the med crosses the blood brain barrier.

There is such a thing as a leaky blood brain barrier and infection is one of the major causes of this I think.
